Environmental and Health Impacts of the BP Gulf Oil Spill

Plus Necessary Resources for the Healthcare Provider

By Dr. Tom Termotto

THE COMING OF THE BLACK WAVE

Nothing in our shared cultural experience will prepare us better for the oncoming Black Wave throughout the Gulf of Mexico than the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill in Prince William Sound, Alaska. And yet even this environmental catastrophe falls far short of what is coming around the corner in the Gulf. Alaska is not Florida, or Louisiana, or Texas. The Deep South summer here in Tallahassee, FL has been as hot and humid as any we’ve seen. This weather pattern is what will distinguish the BP Gulf Oil Spill from the Exxon Valdez just as the total volume of the spill and use of dispersants have.

The relentless cycle of low pressure systems throughout the Gulf of Mexico during the summer season is instrumental in keeping the many toxic vapors close to the surface of the Gulf, as well as the many coastal communities that rim her. We are not only talking about petroleum VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) and the dispersant chemicals found in COREXIT and the hovering methane gas concentrations. We are also talking about the inevitable interactions and synergies among these chemical contaminants that produce much more powerful combinations, especially when they co-exist in such a conducive environment as the Gulf of Mexico hot and humid stewpot.

These realities in the water, and in the air, ought to be known by anyone participating in cleanup and recovery operations anywhere in the Gulf. To ignore them is to do so at great peril. The water has been polluted to a degree never seen on such a grand scale in US Territorial Waters. There simply is no precedent here. The Caspian Sea in Asia is a known petrochemical cesspool, which is so dead that all the bordering nations have given up on her and mercilessly plunder her depths for oil. How far behind is the Gulf of Mexico in the wake of this spill.

If you value your health, you ought not to eat seafood from the Gulf. If you value your health, you ought not to swim in the Gulf. If you value the health of your children, sensitive and delicate as they are during their formative stages, the affected Gulf Coast beaches are no longer a safe and healthy place on which to walk. Nor is wading in the water a safe practice until we know its true status.

The Black Wave of which we speak has many more aspects than the ones we have been hearing about in the mainstream media. There are dimensions that none have ever dared to whisper because it would mean the end of the Oil & Gas Industry for good. There are also phases of progression and retrogression of any oil spill, which will occur over the unique lifetime of this BP Gulf Oil Spill. As Mother Nature employs the tincture of time, Her ever so loyal elements will inexorably serve to heal all that requires healing on land, in the waters, and within the littoral regions to include the marshes, wetlands and estuaries. However, the process of healing will take time … perhaps a long time.

Question:
What do you get when you mix
oil & methane gas,
with oil dispersant (COREXIT),
with radioactive effluent,
with surface-burning oil slicks (petroleum+dispersant),
with lots of dead marine life of every sort and kind
in the Gulf of Mexico during a hot and humid summer?

Answer:
A toxic petrochemical stew which is neither safe to eat from, nor swim in. The affected beaches, wetlands, marshes and estuaries should also be viewed with great caution, or avoided altogether.

Many in the MSM have been trumpeting the miraculous recovery of the Gulf of Mexico in the wake of the successful capping of the gushing oil well at the Macondo Prospect. Of course there are also those from whom common sense has not fled. Thankfully, we still have among us reasonable people who are able to utilize the human faculty of reason. We pray that there will be many others who will understand the simple facts of life in the Gulf, which has taken on an awesome toxic burden – a toxic load of various chemicals, pollutants, contaminants, and poisons that ought to be dealt with very carefully and with great circumspection.

THE CONTEXT

Oil & Petroleum Derivatives:

Even though the WashPo recently published the account of 4.9 million barrels having been spilled into the Gulf of Mexico, our estimate is much closer to 9 million barrels of hydrocarbon effluent plus other components. The geyser gushed for just under 90 days, along with two other wells which gushed for a shorter period of time. Our calculation follows:

87 days X 100,000 barrels per day = 8.7 million barrels of hydrocarbon effluent (oil + methane + particulates [sand, stones, gravel, debris from deep down under])

Factoid – It only takes 1 barrel of oil to effectively pollute one million barrels of seawater.

“Crude oil has proven toxicity at 1 part per million, with constituents like benzene exhibiting genotoxicity in the parts per billion range. The dispersants have made the oil “disappear,” according to the mainstream media, and yet we have marine toxicology documents PROVING that the dispersants PREVENT the natural break…down of some constituents of the oil, e.g. the lesser soluble hydrocarbons, e.g. naphthalene.”

Petroleum and its many derivatives bio-accumulate within living organisms and will concentrate in adipose tissue in human beings. It contains many different chemical constituents that will break down, each of which possesses different levels of toxicity to marine and human life.

Toxicity
“Crude oil is a mixture of many different kinds of organic compounds, many of which are highly toxic and cancer causing (carcinogenic). Oil is “acutely lethal” to fish, that is, it kills fish quickly at a concentration of 4000 parts per million (ppm)[1] (0.4%). “It only takes one quart of motor oil to make 250,000 gallons of ocean water toxic to wildlife.”[2] This would be a concentration of only 1 ppm. Crude oil and petroleum distillates cause birth defects.[3]
Benzene is present in both crude oil and gasoline and is known to cause leukemia in humans.[4] The compound is also known to lower the white blood cell count in humans, which would leave people exposed to it more susceptible to infections.[4] “Studies have linked benzene exposure in the mere parts per billion (ppb) range to terminal leukemia, Hodgkins lymphoma, and other blood and immune system diseases within 5-15 years of exposure.”[5] ” (Per Wikipedia)

“Benzene exposure at below 1 part per million (1 ppm) causes hematotoxicity in exposed workers.” (Per Gulf Oil Spill Truth)

Systems biology of human benzene exposure.

Methane Gas:

Extraordinarily high methane gas concentrations have been measured at many different locations throughout the Gulf and can migrate over Coastal communities with the right meteorological push. CH4, aka methane, can produce many symptoms depending on the concentration and duration of exposure.

What are the main health hazards associated with breathing in methane?

“Methane is not toxic below the lower explosive limit of 5% (50000 ppm). However, when methane is present at high concentrations, it acts as an asphyxiant. Asphyxiants displace oxygen in the air and can cause symptoms of oxygen deprivation (asphyxiation). The available oxygen should be a minimum of 18% or harmful effects will result. Methane displaces oxygen to 18% in air when present at 14% (140000 ppm). It is not expected to cause unconsciousness (narcosis) due to central nervous system depression until it reaches much higher concentrations (30% or 300000 ppm) – well above the lower explosive limit and asphyxiating concentrations.
Effects of oxygen deficiency are:
12-16% – breathing and pulse rate are increased, with slight muscular incoordination;
10-14% – emotional upsets, abnormal fatigue from exertion, disturbed respiration;
6-10% – nausea and vomiting, inability to move freely, collapse, possible lack of consciousness;
below 6% – convulsive movements, gasping, possible respiratory collapse and death.
Since exercise increases the body’s need for oxygen, symptoms will occur more quickly during exertion in an oxygen-deficient environment. Survivors of oxygen deprivation may show damage to some or all organs including the central nervous system and the brain. These effects may or may not be reversible with time, depending on the degree and duration of the low oxygen and the amount of tissue injury.” (Per Canadian Centre for Occupational Health & Safety)

Another significant environmental impact caused by methane is the rapid depletion of oxygen in the aquatic environment. This will have many adverse effects on all marine life, especially those aerobic microbes that assist in bio-degrading the petroleum. Their oil-eating effectiveness will surely be compromised, just as all other aerobic organisms will suffer due to hypoxia (insufficient oxygen).

COREXIT Dispersant:

The total volume of COREXIT dispersant released in and on the Gulf is still being hotly debated. However, in light of the intractable pattern of both non-disclosure and misinformation practiced by BP, as well as the interference run by the Coast Guard over the course of this saga, what can we believe?

Our guarded estimate of the total volume of dispersant used by BP both subsea and on the surface is fast approaching two (2) million gallons of Corexit.

The exact calculation, based upon formal reports filed as of August 2, is as follows:

Surface dispersant used: 1, 072,514 gallons
Subsea dispersant used: 771,272 gallons
Total dispersant used: 1,843,786 gallons
The following link points to an article, which contains the very telling statement:

“But some scientists say the chemical mixture, which at one point was being released at a rate of about 70,000 gallons a day, causes more harm than good, and may have contributed to huge plumes of hydrocarbons below the ocean’s surface. The fact that Corexit now seems to have been so widely used also poses the question of who, exactly, is calling the shots in the Gulf.”

Use of ‘toxic stew’ to get rid of oil brings more trouble for BP

The following article lays bare some of the greatest concerns by those in the field of toxicology. Dr. Shaw offers some invaluable toxicological perspective.

Toxicologist: Oil/Corexit mix caused heart trouble, organ damage, rectal bleeding

Dr. Shaw offered a stark analysis of Corexit 9500 in her piece for The New York Times.
“Though all dispersants are potentially dangerous when applied in such volumes, Corexit [9500] is particularly toxic,” she wrote. “It contains petroleum solvents and a chemical that, when ingested, ruptures red blood cells and causes internal bleeding. It is also bioaccumulative, meaning its concentration intensifies as it moves up the food chain.”

Speaking to CNN on Friday, her message was a bit more dire.
“It ruptures red blood cells, causes internal bleeding and liver and kidney damage,” Dr. Shaw said. “This stuff is so toxic — combined, it’s not the oil alone, it’s not the dispersant — the dispersed oil that still contains this stuff, it’s very, very toxic and it goes right through skin.”

Factoid: COREXIT’s interaction with petroleum is particularly troubling in that dispersed oil causes a much higher rate of mortality in fish than either the oil or dispersant alone. As compared with only oil, Corexit-laden oil is four times more lethal; dispersed oil is ten times more deadly than the dispersant alone. (See detailed analysis below)

Radioactive Hydrocarbon Effluent:

Then there is the radioactive component of the hydrocarbon effluent that comes from mantle-generated abiotic oil (See link below) and which irrefutably possesses higher levels of radium isotopes. The deeper the petroleum reserves, the more likely the reservoirs of oil and methane in those geological formations will contain uranium, thorium or radium. Given the elevated levels of radioactivity at the source, the level of radioactivity associated with the hydrocarbon effluent coming out of the well will inevitably be impacted.

“OPERATE TO FAILURE”: How BP’s MO & The US Addiction To Oil Caused The Catastrophe Of The Millennium

It is very important to note that the American Petroleum Institute acknowledges the existence of radium in the development of oil and gas prospects. Their website prescribes very specific standard operating procedures when certain levels of radioactivity are measured on site or in the equipment. The seriousness of this matter can pertain to any oil and gas drilling and development operations anywhere in the world.

Radium isotopes have inherent health risks that ought to be identified and properly disseminated. The concerned resident of the Gulf Coast may want to initiate him/herself in the area of health impacts due to long-term exposure to low grade radioactivity. Of course, the seafood, the waters and the beaches all provide different vehicles for such contamination to take place, each with varying consequences.

Oil Burned On The Surface Of The Gulf:

It has been estimated that 11.1 million gallons of oil have been burned on the surface of the Gulf thus far. The resulting aerosolizing of the hydrocarbon chemical constituents, along with the dispersant chemical constituents will produce vectors of dissemination that must be further studied. Such a high concentration of harmful airborne chemicals and contaminants, especially if there is a radioactive component, could pose a great health risk to all life residing downwind from the surface oil-burning activity.

We could even see similarities to Gulf War Syndrome experienced by US Service Members who were downwind from the burning oil fields in Kuwait.

Parallels to Gulf War Syndrome:

After the First Gulf War in Iraq, many service members returned home only to be plagued by what came to be known as Gulf War Syndrome. As a matter of fact, there were so many different variants of this syndrome, depending on the service members time and place of duty (and therefore exposures), that many healthcare practitioners recognized a Gulf War Syndrome I, II, III and so on. Each one had it own unique signatures that produced different symptoms and illnesses.

The most serious result of Gulf War Syndrome variants were the numerous instances where the veterans subsequently had children who were deformed or who had defects that were directly the result of genetic mutation. Could a toxic cocktail of pre-war vaccinations and exposure to oil well fires produce such an effect so quickly? Not likely, unless there was much more to (and in) the vaccine regimen that we do not know. However there is one thing we have learned about the development of oil and gas reserves which we did not know until recently.

There is a radioactive component found within geological formation from where oil and gas are pulled. This fact has been scientifically documented by the American Petroleum Institute, as well as by many petroleum engineers, geologists and scientists from around the world for many years. Curiously it is rarely ever talked about and even denied in some circles, as it would have probably caused the demise of the entire industry.

It now appears that the US service members who suffered the most, and especially those who bore children with unusual and inexplicable defects were directly exposed to radioactive hydrocarbons. When Saddam Hussein ordered the destruction of the oil and gas wells by setting them on fire, Iraq was transformed into a sort of Oil & Gas Armageddon. Whoever was present was exposed to these toxic and potentially radioactive fumes. And since they were breathed in, it translated to a much quicker physical manifestation in the human body. Ultimately the black, acrid smoke would find numerous vectors of dissemination, which would allow the toxic constituents to settle on the ground, on the vegetation and food, and in the water bodies and courses.

The consequent aerosol toxic brew is certainly one that is not too unlike what is occurring this very moment throughout the Gulf of Mexico. As BP et al. has taken to burning the many oil slicks and oil plumes that are being aggregated, we see a very similar set of circumstances, which could very well contribute to a future BP Gulf Oil Spill Syndrome.

Dead & Contaminated Marine Life Working Its Way Up The Gulf’s Food Chain:

Lastly, we have a Gulf of Mexico that is replete with dead organisms both microscopic (phytoplankton) and leviathan (whales). This does include plant and animal life of great diversity. Vast swaths of the food chain have been toxified and poisoned by the current petrochemical brew, which by all appearances may appear to be normal. However….

This is where it takes a seasoned observer and astute investigator applying all the necessary scientific process and procedure to accurately diagnose the true condition of this traumatized body of water. All chemicals don’t merely break down instantaneously, as we often hear from the Oil & Gas Industry wordsmiths. As a matter of fact, many are ultimately reduced to such a state that they will have no where to go but to bio-accumulate within the tissues of living organisms. These various chemicals are currently being evaluated for their degree of toxicity and reactivity in vivo (within living organisms).

There is no question that, given the total volume of oil and dispersant currently in the Gulf, there will inevitably be substantial and dire consequences to the entire food chain. Particularly as the larvae at the bottom of this chain pick up the various chemicals and contaminants, and are subsequently eaten by larger and then larger marine animals, we will see threats emerge to that segment of the human population which continues to eat the seafood from the Gulf. GREAT time to become a vegetarian!

Deep South Weather Pattern:

We are in the throes of an extremely hot and humid weather pattern here in the Deep South. The Low Pressure Systems forming over the Gulf of Mexico have been relentless since the BP Gulf Oil Spill first began. These are characterized by low cloud cover, little air movement, high humidity and very hot conditions which make it ideal for aerosolized chemicals and toxins to hang close to the surface of the Gulf. This predominant weather pattern has created a very hospitable environment for an exacerbation of the many symptoms associated with the aforementioned chemical exposures.

The blood brain barrier is a “chemical labyrinth that prevents toxins and viruses in the bloodstream from reaching the brain”. However, this layer is only four cells thick around the olfactory nerve, where it is more tenuous and not an integral barrier. This very delicate and attenuated structure in the nasal system will therefore provide a point of entry into the brain for harmful toxins which are airborne. For those out on the Gulf who are exposed to VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) in the air, they ought to have respirators around any oil cleanup operations. Not to wear one utilize puts their health in peril, which can manifest in the following ways:

Health Effects
“Eye, nose, and throat irritation; headaches, loss of coordination, nausea; damage to liver, kidney, and central nervous system. Some organics can cause cancer in animals; some are suspected or known to cause cancer in humans. Key signs or symptoms associated with exposure to VOCs include conjunctival irritation, nose and throat discomfort, headache, allergic skin reaction, dyspnea, declines in serum cholinesterase levels, nausea, emesis, epistaxis, fatigue, dizziness.
The ability of organic chemicals to cause health effects varies greatly from those that are highly toxic, to those with no known health effect. As with other pollutants, the extent and nature of the health effect will depend on many factors including level of exposure and length of time exposed. Eye and respiratory tract irritation, headaches, dizziness, visual disorders, and memory impairment are among the immediate symptoms that some people have experienced soon after exposure to some organics.” (Per US Environmental Protection Agency)

Parallels to 911 Toxic Dust Syndrome:

The many first responders who showed up at the 911 rubble pile in NYC suffer from a unique malady known as 911 Toxic Dust Syndrome. And although it has yet to be officially recognized by the US Federal Government, it has a specific set of baseline symptoms which are exhibited by many, even those who were present when the Twin Towers came down. There are many who lived and worked in the same general vicinity who also experience symptoms to this day.

The health and medical records of many first responders who have passed away since 911 will also reveal that they exhibited none of these unique symptoms prior to 911. Therefore, many of these deaths were caused directly by a disease process that was triggered by their exposure to the aerosolized toxic dust that came to permeate a large swath of lower Manhattan. These same records will also reveal a similar pattern of health issues and medical diagnoses which is very similar to those who are still living with the
pain and suffering associated with 911 TOXIC DUST SYNDROME.

One of the real tragedies of the 911 saga is that the EPA assured the people of NYC, and especially the cleanup workers, that everything was okay with air quality when it was obvious to everyone else in the world that it was not okay. If it sounds familiar then it is probably because you either read or heard the following story.

Here’s one of the most recent examples of deliberate disinformation, misinformation and false information disseminated by the corporate/government/media juggernaut regarding the BP Gulf Oil Spill. The new and improved BP PR Campaign that is addressing the environmental health aspects of this oil spill has gone into full gear in order to assure everyone that everything is okay. BP’s COO, Doug Suttles is quoted as follows:

“BP’s chief operating officer sought to give the southern US fishing industry a much-need boost Sunday, saying he’d “absolutely” eat Gulf of Mexico seafood after the massive oil spill devastated the region.”

BP executive ‘absolutely’ would eat Gulf seafood

We, here at the Gulf Oil Spill Remediation Conference in Tallahassee, FL, would very much like to audit the actual seafood sources from which Mr. Suttles takes his daily lunch and evening supper over the next twelve months. We would also ask that he partakes of at least one meal a day which includes seafood from the Gulf of Mexico, specifically from within a one hundred mile radius of the Macondo Prospect. At the end of the first year we will have our physicians standing by to conduct either an autopsy or the appropriate pathology procedures that would be required at that point of evolution of the most likely diseases to be caused by oil and COREXIT poisoning.

Interactions, Synergies, & Dangerous Combinations:

The area of research that studies the effects of different combinations of these chemical constituents is at an alarmingly rudimentary stage of development. Therefore, we really do not know the long-term effects of the various chemicals that, through synergistic interactions, can ramp up their level of toxicity in living organisms. Because we are particularly concerned about the deleterious effects to human life, it may be very difficult to ever assess these health risks. Who among us would avail our person to such exposures for the sake of testing?

We can make the following three (3) statements about oil, dispersant (Corexit 9500) and dispersed oil per the EPA website link that follows:

(1) 10.72 parts per million (ppm) of oil alone will kill 50% of the fish test species in a normal aquatic environment within 96 hours.
(2) 25.20 parts per million of dispersant (Corexit 9500) alone will kill 50% of the fish test species in a normal aquatic environment within 96 hours.
(3) 2.61 parts per million of dispersed oil (Corexit-laden) alone will kill 50% of the fish test species in a normal aquatic environment within 96 hours.

National Contingency Plan Product Schedule Toxicity and Effectiveness Summaries

“Crude oil has proven toxicity at 1 part per million, with constituents like benzene exhibiting genotoxicity in the parts per billion range. The dispersants have made the oil “disappear,” according to the mainstream media, and yet we have marine toxicology documents PROVING that the dispersants PREVENT the natural break…down of some constituents of the oil, e.g. the lesser soluble hydrocarbons, e.g. naphthalene.” (Per Gulf Oil Spill Truth)

Biodegradation of Dispersed Oil Using COREXIT 9500

As you can see from the above statements, there is a very definite synergistic effect that directly results from the interaction between the oil and dispersant. Together they create a much more toxic environment, and should be considered very seriously when seafood is known to be coming from those locations.
Are there other more dangerous combinations to be aware of? We don’t know and toxicologists usually study isolated chemical compounds rather than researching the results of their various combinations.
Moral of the Story: What we do not know may hurt us. And in some cases it may take years to show up as a symptom or a disease. Perhaps it is better to err on the side of caution where it concerns our precious health.

This state of affairs also illustrates how unintended consequences, collateral damage and toxic side effects all collide in a rather finite system called the Gulf of Mexico with far-reaching ramifications. Contrary to what the BP spinmeisters convey to the media and government, the Gulf IS full of oil. Because some of it has been dispersed into tiny droplets, doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Because much of the spilled oil exists in many different locations, as well as in different conditions, and is out of sight, out of mind, doesn’t mean it’s not there. Oil doesn’t just disappear, as some would have us believe!
(1) The pools on the undersea floor are under extremely high pressure and very low temperature, and therefore require a uniquely creative solution.
(2) The plumes at, above and below the midline exhibit there own behavior and challenges.
(3) The surface plumes, oil slicks and screens are more easily addressed except when they migrate into the wetlands, marshes and littoral regions. These predicaments pose great challenges no matter what the solutions, especially when they coat the beaches, as the sun and heat and gravity encourage the oil to sink into the sand as it did in Prince William Sound, Alaska after the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill.

Here’s what Admiral Thad Allen of the Coast Guard BP Oil Spill Response Team said about the difficulty of dealing with oil accumulations scattered throughout the Gulf:

“What we have is an aggregation of hundreds of thousands of patches of oil and the challenge is to find out where they are at right now because they are widely dispersed,” said U.S. spill response chief Thad Allen.
Pressed further on the patches, Allen relented: “Maybe patches is a misnomer on my part. What we’re seeing are mats, patties, small concentrations, very hard to detect, but they’re out there.” (Per canada.com)

Obvious Health and Medical Impacts:

The Exxon Valdez Oil Spill in Prince William Sound, Alaska showed us the most obvious health impacts that will inevitably occur wherever there are many communities affected directly by the spilt oil, methane releases, wanton use of dispersants, contaminated seafood, denial by government and oil company alike, etc. The greatest lesson learned from that catastrophic oil spill was the unanticipated and long lingering psychological impacts which only intensified with time right up to this very day. So profound and devastating were these psychological effects, that the very social, economic and political fabric of a vast area of Alaska was forever altered.

People will no doubt show up, as they always do, to help the process of getting things back to normal. However, normal will never return in our lifetimes, and we should therefore seek to protect ourselves from all that can do harm, and will do harm in several different ways. Certainly protection of our families and friends, home and property, businesses and other possessions ought to be a high priority for all concerned. However, it is the stability of our mental state, emotional attitude, and general psychological posture which deserves the most attention. Maintaining a positive and refreshed outlook each and every day is of paramount importance.

At the end of the day the mental and emotional health repercussions of the BP Gulf oil spill disaster will be the most challenging as it was in Alaska. From all with whom we have spoken, we have heard the same litany of mental and emotional problems which seem to surface wherever the Black Wave appears. As the social fabric slowly tears, so do the many support systems upon which we all rely weaken, especially during these already quite tumultuous and challenging times.

Most of these mental and emotional health repercussions will appear as psychological maladies that typically emerge from many different forms of loss, and especially the unresolved grief associated with such unexpected and jolting loss. Loss of job, loss of business, and loss of financial security are some examples. So are loss of health, loss of relationships, and loss of access to the beach. We also see loss of home, loss of a way of life and loss of traditional foods. Fisherman can no longer go out in their boats; beachgoers forgo their morning shelling routine; joggers take to the pavement instead of the sand.

There are numerous symptoms, ailments and illnesses that are the direct result of exposure to an oil spill which can be gleaned from various sources. Some of these resources have been provided by organizations that have been directly involved with oil spill mitigation and remediation. In some cases they have been able to closely follow the development of disease in any given population, which was exposed to many of the same chemical contaminants that are found at different oil spill sites throughout the world.

We have before us a defining moment in American history. An entire region of the country has been beset with a manmade environmental catastrophe, the effects of which will be felt for generations. How do we respond to the Black Wave? How de we deal with a foreign, multi-national corporation that is as addicted to drilling for oil as it is to deception?! How do we respond to the Federal Government that demonstrates a similar pattern of disinformation?!

We ask these questions in the face of the many health and medical impacts that are most assuredly coming down the pike. More than ever we need our focus and energy directed at the real health challenges and subsequent medical issues which will emerge if we are not aware and well informed. Where there is true and accurate information, there can be informed and wise decisions about how we can continue to live our lives in a healthy manner along the Gulf Coast of Mexico.

Oil and gas are still seeping unabated, says expert. Toxic leakage poses significant public health risks.

by Luis R. Miranda
The Real Agenda
October 10, 2011

The Gulf of Mexico disaster has not gone away. In fact, it has grown exponentially since the main stream media stopped talking about it. According to the Gulf Rescue Alliance, an organization composed of scientists, medical professionals and seafood industry professionals, among others, the problem cannot be simplified to the damage already caused by the oil spill. It is worse, much worse.

Pools of crude oil float on the surface of Gulf of Mexico waters at the site of the sunken BP/Transocean oil drill the Deepwater Horizon on April 27, 2010.
The Real Agenda received exclusive information regarding the current state of the ongoing emergency in the Gulf of Mexico. The latest assessment performed by the Gulf Rescue Alliance reveals not only that the oil spill is still happening, but also that the Gulf of Mexico’s sea floor grew more unstable since the explosion in 2010. Additionally, analysis provided by experts like BK Lim, shows that the geohazards developed that derive from the rolling leakage of toxic matter, combined with the on-going use of the highly toxic chemical dispersant called Corexit will most likely result in the permanent decline of marine life, while posing out-of-control public health risks, just as it did after the Exxon Valdez spill where the same chemical dispersants were used resulting in a rapid decline of the marine life until, for example, the Herring industry completely collapsed and has never recovered since then.

In a letter dated 14 January, 2011 that was sent to Congressman Fred Upton, Chairman House Committee on Energy and Commerce, and Congressman John Shimkus Chairman Subcommittee on Environment and Economy, BK Lim warned the congressmen and their committees about the current state of the sub-seabed in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM). In the document, an in-depth assessment of the emergency was provided. It explains why action must be taken immediately. The evaluation of the emergency in the Gulf conducted by Mr. Lim appears credible and is based on his 30 years of experience analyzing the geologic structure of both dry land and underwater drilling sites for major oil industry companies and leading geohazards contractors such as Fugro Geodetic (M) Sdn Bhd, TL Geohydrographics Sdn Bhd, and RPS Energy Pty Ltd.

“The vaporization of enormous amounts of methane hydrates on a scale not seen before, the release of stresses between the lower and upper crust resulting in the abnormal occurrences of low magnitude, shallow earthquakes adjacent to the New Madrid Fault, the sub-seabed underground erosion in the vicinity of the shelf edge undermining the slope stability with possible tsunami-generating, giant, submarine landslides,” said Mr. Lim.

As we now know, the BP explosion that cost the lives of 11 workers was not an accident, but negligence at best and a conspiracy at worst. The latest assessment from the Gulf Rescue Alliance seems to reinforce the fact that BP drilled into the Macondo well with questionable regard for the damage it would cause to the well itself, the sea floor and the marine environment down below.

“There is no question that the oil seepages, gas columns, fissures and blowout craters in the seafloor around the Macondo wellhead, observed from the ROV videos, have been the direct result of indiscriminate drilling, grouting, injection of dispersant and other undisclosed recovery activities,” details the document sent to congressman Upton on January 14 of this year. The direct result of the Deepwater Horizon’s explosion was the massive destruction of life through miles of coastline. The less than adequate cleanup, which helped worsen the disaster, condemned the area to living with tons of toxic chemical dispersants that simply destroyed the eco systems and negatively affected the health of thousands of people who live nearby and millions of others who directly and indirectly depend on the fishing, tourism and natural beauty of the marine life, wildlife and environment.

A review of the documents and news articles during the days and weeks after the underwater explosion, clearly shows that BP was attempting to buy time with various delay tactics and was unwilling to reveal the truth and magnitude of the disaster. While BP was officially battling to kill well A their contractors and other vessels went about with other covert underwater operations, many of which did not seem to be in sync with the urgency of killing “a third undisclosed well which was gushing even more oil”. For example there was this video showing a ROV brushing of the name of another oil company from a new BOPbrought into the vicinity of the Macondo wells. BP Clean off Co Logo on BOP – why? – on 9 June 2010.Other videos showed oil gushing from craters on the seafloor and ROV activities (blasting (demolition?), cutting and removal of well casings on the seafloor and from a hole (another well?), dismantling BOP, grouting of seafloor tens to over hundreds of meters away from well A. How could a BOP be dangling for two weeks from 3 to 16 July while BP was showing to the world’s audience the killing and capping of supposedly the only spewing well A from June till 15 July?

In fact, in early media reports animated graphics suggested 3 different leaks locations. BP admitted initially 3 leaks but conveniently reduced to only 1 later; ignoring to explain the “why, when and how”. BP had maintained from the start they had drilled only 1 well. From my analysis in early Aug 2010 I concluded BP could not have drilled only 1 well. They must have drilled 3 wells to account for all the conflicting information. See media reports here.

Videos also confirmed that even as early as May to June, oil and gas were already spewing from the seafloor as far as 7 to over 20 miles from Well A. A satellite photo on 25 May suggests a good correlation between the seabed oil spewing and with the faults and Salt Domes.

Evidently, numerous Youtube video postings not only confirm that BP and multiple federal agencies who were on the scene were not revealing all to the public, but that unknown quantities of hydrocarbons were still leaking out from the reservoir at high pressure and seeping through multiple fault lines to the seabed. “It is not possible to “cap” this oil,” reads Mr. Lim’s analysis. “Until a solution is found to seal these fissures, the hydrocarbons, including Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S), will continue to leak uncontrollably”.

WHAT IS NOW HAPPENING BELOW THE GULF’S WATERS?

The document sent to congressman Fred Upton is accompanied by photos, videos and other documentation that support the concerns expressed by the Gulf Rescue Alliance. Just as a doctor with years of experience in viewing and analyzing x-rays can immediately see a fractured bone or other ailment when a laymen would not see it or understand it’s importance, Lim has years of experience in viewing underwater videos of oil and gas seepage and can quickly see and analyze what is occurring where a laymen would not pick up on it. In his letter, Lim describes what is occurring in a series of underwater videos taken by ROV’s around and near the wellhead.

In one of the videos, Well A, as it is known, appears to be releasing clouds of methane saturated seawater, gas bubbles of methane and re-crystallized methane crystals floating close to the seabed in the vicinity of the Macondo wellhead. On top of this, says the letter, it is also possible to see new fissures and a bulging seabed developing together with an already blown crater.

A second video shows how the very rope that guides the surveying ROV disappears into a dense, darkish cloud of oily fluid. Lim’s document explains how grout materials and old drilling mud that were previously taken to higher altitudes by columns of gas in the water can be seen in the video falling back onto the sea floor. These columns of gas are coming from newly activated venting fissures formed due to sea floor instability and fragility. Viewers can also see re-crystallized methane which appears as transparent and light multicolor materials floating in the water.

The third video shows the “periodic expulsion of the gas through one of the fissures on the seabed. Like geysers, the escaping gas needs to accumulate beneath the top sediment cover until the built-up pressure exceeds the combined water-column and overburden pressure just before each periodic expulsion,” explains the report compiled by the Alliance. According to images obtained from a ROV video, there are pools of tar/oil sediment all over the seafloor which are the direct result of the oil spill.

Although it is very difficult, under the current circumstances, to obtain clear footage of what is going on at that depth, my extensive training and experience in analyzing these types of situations, combined with these footages and others which I have access to, provides proof that oil and gas are still seeping unabated from the uncontrolled leaking reservoir,” warns BK Lim on his letter sent to congressmen Upton and Shimkus on 14 January, 2011.

Independently collected video footage from places like Saint Louis Bay Beach, Pensacola Beach, Santa Rosa Beach, Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge and other places around the Gulf shows large amounts of fresh Corexit foam on the beach. As Corexit can only be used to sink fresh oil within the first couple of days of it coming up out of the ground, it is yet another indicator that there is an on-going attempt to sink fresh oil below the surface. Surficial bitumen layers (oil tarballs) that made it to the water surface as recently as September 6, due to storm surge are also coming up in massive amounts. According to sources close to the Gulf Rescue Alliance, on August 18, 2011, members of EcoRigs, went out and collected surface water samples that contained crude oil which they believed belonged to the ongoing BP oil spill. They also recorded video evidence of a heavy oil slick on Long Beach Mississippi. The water / oil samples were examined by independent laboratories and the first of those samples to return from the lab on the 28th of September confirmed their concerns: the oil was BP’s and from the Macondo reservoir.

Water sample analysis conducted independently by EcoRigs shows a positive correlation to BP’s oil spill samples. “The presence of fresh BP MC 252 crude oil in surface waters 2 to 14 months after the well was reported to have been capped suggests that crude oil from the BP DWH MC 252 field may have found new pathways to the seafloor.” The evaluations conducted also reveal that the toxic chemical Corexit is now being applied to the subsurface leak located 1500 meters beneath the ocean’s surface at the wellhead. This is done with the intention of further decomposing the oil so that the smaller particles do not make it to the surface and the continuing oil spill can be easily kept from the public eye.

ANOTHER MISHANDLED DISASTER

Just as with Katrina, more than a year into the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, the Federal government has shown its ineptitude to adequately solving the consequences of a major disaster. In separate documents gathered by the Gulf Rescue Alliance, more revealing details are provided about how BP and the government handled the oil spill disaster. “The blown crater at the undisclosed 3rd well was spewing more than 100,000 barrels per day. (100,000 barrels estimate was based on the quantity of oil seen on the surface). Even worse the highly corrosive mix of brine, gas and oil ingresses into every crevices and permeable sections of the formation, creating new pathways to the seafloor,” says Mr. Lim. The Alliance subscribed to the standard industrial practice of conducting a detailed seafloor survey as immediately possible, to establish the extent of the seafloor damage following the well blowout. Just as an X-ray would help the surgeon in pin-pointing and planning the most appropriate surgical procedure, such a detailed seafloor and sub-seabed scan would most certainly provide the most strategic approach to stopping the release of hydrocarbons from the beleaguered well or wells. After ignoring repeated calls for such a seafloor survey since the blowout, BP and NOAA suddenly announced such a research survey using the NOAA Okeanos Explorer 15 months later. The only logical conclusion to this late survey is:

“A seafloor survey then (within the first few months) would reveal the ugly truths about the broken seafloor and precarious salt formation they were trying so hard to hide,” continued Mr. Lim. After more than a year of grouting, patching up and destroying all critical evidence in the seabed around the Macondo wells they (BP) were confident enough, the “modified seafloor” would not be incriminating to them. According to Mr. Lim, British Petroleum was very careful not to mention the fact they had drilled 3 wells. If this fact had come out, it would have caused a bomb and they could have been indicted for drilling without permission. “That is what they fear most,” says Lim. BP was also careful to isolate drilling crews away from each other, which according to Lim, is against safety rules because drilling need to be briefed on hazardous and technical problems encountered at earlier drilling stages. Although BP may not have expected the three wells to blow up, this was an almost sure outcome due to the interconnected shallow gas formation (which was one of the main causes of their numerous problems). Further, after urgent requests for recommendations, a formal request was made to the Coast Guard on behalf of Constituent David Fakouri with the Louisiana Economic Foundation demanding seafloor survey and damage assessment be done with a 3rd party observer, but the request was denied.

The recent seafloor survey went on to have totally different emphasis and priorities. This led geohazards expert BK Lim to conclude as follows:

“The vessel’s track history seemed to suggest higher emphasis in the south-western edges of the Biloxi Dome, the southern edged of Whiting Dome and generally south of the Macondo prospects. While there may yet be geologically valid reasons for the emphasis south of the Macondo wells, the shelf edges 6 to 8 km north-west of Macondo Wells and the badly eroded north-western edges of Whiting Dome should at least be surveyed with some grid-lines (see areas P1 and P2).

BP’s vessels had been observed working for quite some time in both areas. The 22 mile long underwater plume (first denied by BP and later confirmed by many independent research cruises), was suspected to have originated from the cracks in the seafloor at these locations. By avoiding these critical areas, can the present survey investigation be truly objective and independent in investigating the truth of the Macondo Blowout?

Almost all the oil sightings are north of the Macondo wells, not south. Why did the survey deliberately (?) avoid the shelf edges north of Macondo. In March 2011, new oil spills were suspected to have come from “leaks in the seabed” north of the Matherhorn field. The shelf edges bordering the Mississippi-Alabama Shelf, appear pretty fractured with large crevices and in potential danger of sliding into gigantic submarine landslides. Submarine landslides are more effective in generating tsunami than quakes without significant landslides. Both the 2011 Japan and 2004 Sumatra Quakes had giant tsunamis due to the accompanying large submarine mass displacement.”

During the first few weeks of the disaster, there was a struggle within BP between thosewho wanted to come clean about the reality of the situation and another group that wanted to cover it up. Apparently the latter group managed to win the struggle and they decided to use the well with the least of the problems (the first and shallowest, Well A, which was drilled to about 5,000 feet below mudline) to be the one staged for the world media as the “show capping” of an oil spill. The third and bigger leak at Well 3, which the late Matt Simmons kept asserting was “the deepest well that reached the Macondo oil resevoir”, was kept out of the public limelight.

A confidential source informed The Real Agenda that credible scientific evidence has been gathered giving high probability to allegations that oil is, in fact, still leaking and that inadequate oil spill response protocols were employed by the EPA, Coast Guard and other officials at Federal and State levels throughout the disaster. According to the source, the compilation of the scientific evidence is not just an edict of worrisome errors but criminal negligence resulting in a worsened tragedy throughout the Gulf States and Gulf of Mexico Ecosystem resulting in serious human health consequences—with EPA being at the head of that mismanagement.

The source further reports that between May 2010 and March 2011 long after the reported capping of the BP well in July of 2010 the average toxicity levels in the Gulf Region waters from Texas to Florida were persisting at unsafe levels and that, in some cases, they were thousands of times higher than EPA established safety threshold levels. It was during this same period of time that federal government agencies put out propaganda saying everything on the Gulf of Mexico was safe, including seafood, air and sea water.

It has been alleged that NOAA’s testing methods were flawed resulting in the “all is safe now in the Gulf” proclamation by responsible agencies. A separate concern is the fact that BP has a $500 million fund paying for continuing studies on the after effects of the spill and use of Corexit leading to concerns by independent scientists over the transparency and availability of this information to the public. Scientists under BP or government contracts conducting studies are not permitted to publicize or discuss any of their data until delivered to their employers. With some of these studies estimated to take several years, the public won’t know the truth until years later.

On September 13, 2011 new oil was seen close to where the original BP oil explosion occurred. Due to the fact the EPA insists on using Corexit as the only possible solution to the problem, the most important issue up to this point -the dire consequences of using Corexit- are not being addressed. Corexit not only contaminates the Gulf of Mexico and the human populations established throughout, but also is ineffective remediating the core problem: cleaning the Gulf waters as fast as possible. The only thing Corexit has proven is its effectiveness to pollute the waters and the Gulf as a whole. Why then does the EPA and the federal government insist on using it? It is interesting to note that none of the official statements by either the EPA or the oil companies state that Corexit cleans up the waters. They do, however, repeatedly state that Corexit is “effective”, which misleads the public into thinking that Corexit is cleaning up the waters. What Corexit is effective at is sinking it below the surface where it is difficult to see and quantify just how much is there, and breaking it up into small particles and spreading the contamination far and wide making the potential problems of toxic exposure to both humans and all the flora and fauna exponentially worse.

EPA ENFORCES ANTIQUATED OIL SPILL CLEAN UP PROTOCOLS

On its website, the EPA mildly agrees that using Corexit as a tool to clean the Gulf has “trade offs”. The question is, where are the positives? The oil is not being cleaned, but the waters and the complete ecosystem are being contaminated. Given the Federal Government’s line of action, it seems the task at hand is to make things worse, instead of better. Even after BP requested to test on the DWH oil already-proven, effective, non-toxic alternative oil spill cleanup technologies the EPA refused to allow those alternative technologies to be utilized.

One of the most highly regarded products suggested by scientists and environmental and conservation groups is Oil Spill Eater II, which is not only approved by the EPA, but also listed as part of an official list of products for oil spill cleanup, called the National Contingency Plan (or NCP List) that have been tested and approved as workable for emergencies like the one now taking place in the Gulf of Mexico.

According to the Gulf Rescue Alliance, BP’s requests to use Oil Spill Eater II were denied by the EPA and regional federally controlled response team officials. The Real Agenda additionally received documents showing formal requests were made by the Governor of Louisiana Mississippi and Alabama to use or conduct trials on OSE II in their states. In June 2010, the EPA sent a letter to Louisiana Governor Jindal denying the use of bioremediation methods for the DWH oil. Per documents obtained by the Gulf Rescue Alliance, the letter had a number of inaccuracies and misleading statements in it, and showed a surprising lack of understanding of the natural process that mother nature follows to clean up an oil spill. This effectively took off the table all but one of the non-toxic products on the NCP list for use in the Gulf of Mexico blowout. The only non-toxic product which did not fit under the detailed description of why the EPA stated that bioremediation would have only limited value, unwittingly made the case for the immediate use of OSE II. When this was pointed out to the EPA in a subsequent letter by OSEI, the company that manufactures and distributes OSE II, the EPA ignored the letter. BP America’s Chief Counsel stated in a conference call with the OSEI Corporation, in September of 2011 that BP was not able to use OSE II to treat the oil disaster because “BP is bound by the government’s decision” —bound by the EPA mandate [to keep using Corexit]. Consequently, it is estimated by sources outside of BP that BP could “have saved an estimated $36 billion in clean up costs if they had deployed the EPA approved alternative to Corexit. Gulf Rescue Alliance members state that it is in possession of voluminous documentation that indicates the EPA arbitrarily blocks any attempt to use environmentally friendly methods to clean the Gulf and instead prefers to use Corexit with no regard for the marine life and public’s health from the now proven to be fatally toxic chemical dispersant.

The use of friendlier technologies could not have only saved the Gulf’s ecosystem in the earlier stages of the disaster, but it would have also reduced the costs of the clean-up process for both the federal government and BP itself and prevented untold damage. Instead, the disaster in the Gulf continues to endanger everything and everyone as the toxic contamination spreads, and the costs of the clean-up process -which are now estimated in the tens of billions of dollars- continue to skyrocket.

Given the EPA’s decision not to help resolve the oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, community organizations such as the Surfrider Foundation and the Center for Biological Diversity have filed lawsuitsthat ask the EPA to conduct long-term studies that evaluate the impacts of Corexit on the environment and endangered species. It is expected that these lawsuits will act as a wake-up call to the EPA, NOAA and the U.S. Coast Guard, which appear to have made a conscious effort to block all alternatives directed towards the use of OSE II or any other environmentally friendly and truly effective technologies or techniques to clean the Gulf swiftly and effectively.

PRESS RELEASE:

Ian R. Crane Named Co-Defendant in Lawsuit Against Deborah Dupre

Suit Alleges Conspiracy to Commit Character Defamation/Assassination by Libel and Slander

Ian R. Crane has recently been named a co-defendant in a $10 million lawsuit being filed by the Gulf Oil Spill Remediation Conference (GOSRC) against Deborah Dupre. The lawsuit alleges that Ian R. Crane and Deborah Dupre conspired to conduct a highly coordinated campaign of deliberate and malicious character assassination against the some of the most out-spoken members of the GOSRC, an International Citizens’ Initiative.

This lawsuit further alleges that this conspiracy was carried out by the systematic practice of character defamation through both the posting of libelous articles, newsletters, emails and comments throughout the internet, as well as by the slanderous radio interviews conducted by Crane and Dupre over the past 6+ months. The lawsuit is requesting both compensatory and punitive damages in the amount of $10 million to be paid to all injured parties.

The GOSRC has already indicated that the full amount of the compensatory and punitive damages adjudicated by the court will be used to establish a BP Gulf Oil Spill Remediation Fund. Most of the proceeds from this fund will be utilized toward the creation of a professional organization dedicated to scientifically determining the numerous medical conditions, health problems and wellness issues directly caused by the BP Gulf Oil Spill.

Several parties, completely outside of the GOSRC, have likewise been injured in numerous ways by the two individuals named above, as well as by the Gulf Coast Barefoot Doctors (GCBD), an organization co-founded by Deborah Dupre and her sister, Delia LaBarre. The lawsuit further alleges that the GCBD has been a primary platform from which much of this premeditated character assassination and consequent defamation of character has been launched.

New evidence has been received by the GOSRC which adds to Ian R. Crane’s open admission that he secretly taped the National Coordinator, an illegal act in the State of Florida. In an exchange of emails between the GOSRC and Crane, the following statement was issued by Ian Crane in response to this illegal taping of the telephone conversation: “You would of course also need to file for Extradition!” (Per Crane’s email dated April 2, 2011)

A recent Crane email to the GOSRC indicates, not only a threat to release more purposefully, defamatory material onto the internet, but also insinuates a strong intention to continue these unlawful character assassinations whenever it serves his purpose to do so. The GOSRC has made overtures to Crane to learn the truth regarding the great number of falsehoods which he, himself, is illegally disseminating.

The GOSRC has made it clear that the choice is now his; he can cease and desist his criminal behavior or suffer the consequences in the appropriate courts of law. For our part, please be advised that those of us who have been profoundly harmed by the behavior of both Deborah Dupre and Ian Crane, we will henceforth defend ourselves and our ongoing conference with great vigor and legal prowess.

An Important Message to Each Defendant:

Deborah Dupre, due to the imminence and gravity of the forthcoming court case, it is required that a full retraction of the relevant libelous article and subsequent comments (both written and verbal) which began this entire saga. Only through this necessary act of good faith on her part will the GOSRC nullify all future legal actions against her.

As for Ian R. Crane, only an immediate cessation of all factually incorrect and defamatory posts related to this matter, as well as a full retraction of his false statements made to impugn the aforementioned characters will release him from the upcoming lawsuit and all future litigation. Also, unless this recommended response is acknowledged and acted upon, an extremely aggressive internet campaign will be geared up which will be proportionately upgraded to include all of those other individuals who have likewise suffered from his highly dubious and reprehensible behavior.

CAVEAT: The internet campaign, which has only recently been initiated to implement this defensive strategy, will evolve into a multi-faceted, multi-media platform which will be used as a model for many other good people who have suffered the same fate on the world wide web. Should any reader possess additional information regarding this case, please feel free to email @ gosrclawsuit@aol.com

‘Journalists’ Ian Crane & Deborah Dupre destroy Gulf citizens’ movement

Just who is Ian R. Crane and why does he, together with the Gulf Coast Barefoot Doctors, persist in destroying the Gulf Oil Spill citizens’ movement? Why does a Britisher suddenly appear on the scene of the greatest environmental catastrophe in US history hawking his wares and conspiracies?

Ian R Crane hawking his Gulf oil spill products online

After many months of investigation of this British citizen – Ian R. Crane – we can report the following facts about his business, his mission and his “journalistic” practice where it concerns the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM).

It is very important to note that this foreign ‘journalist’ lives in the United Kingdom not too far from London, admits to being an ex-Shlumberger oilman, and makes his money from selling internet conspiracy theory (which may be true or false) about the Gulf oil spill. The point is that this is how he earns his income, by selling videos that purport to explain away all things related to the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill.

The following headline has appeared on many of the internet’s alternative news sites over the past 6 months:

Ian Crane, Ex-Schlumberger Oilman, Illegally

Tapes Former GOSRC Coordinator

Here is one of the Gulf Oil Spill news sites where it can be found:

http://phoenixrisingfromthegulf.wordpress.com/2011/08/28/all-points-bulletin-re-ian-r-crane/

The first question anyone would ask is: Why was Ian Crane illegally and secretly taping a member – the National Coordinator no less – of the Gulf Oil Spill Remediation Conference? What was his purpose?

In light of all the hacking and illegal behavior during the News of the World scandal in London, we now know that many journalists commit illegal actions as a matter of job performance. That doesn’t make it right, or ethical, or appropriate in any way. It just goes to show the rest of the world how far such a profession has strayed from legal conduct. Of course, in this instance the question remains why Crane felt compelled to conduct illegal taping of a telephone conversation? Who is he really working for?

During the course of researching this whole affair, it became quite evident that Crane does work very closely with members of the Gulf Coast Barefoot Doctors (GCBD) group in NOLA. He and Deborah Dupre, a GCBD founder and ex-board member, have apparently teamed up to character assassinate anyone who disagrees with them or their modus operandi. Cross their path in any serious way and many agree you’re toast as far as personal destruction on the internet is concerned.

Deborah Dupre has admitted that she and her family are paid by oil companies to transport oil through pipelines which they have permitted (contracted) to run across their properties in Louisiana. Dupre also writes for Examiner.com, an internet news platform which is staffed by citizen writers, all of whom are paid according to the size of their readership. Examiner.com has a very close partnership with Thomson Reuters, the huge media conglomerate headquartered across the street from BP International Headquarters in London. Wait, this gets more interesting by the paragraph!

Just who are the Gulf Coast Barefoot Doctors and what is their MO? Please read the following article to fully understand the damage that this organization has wrought throughout the GOM coastline advocacy groups and beyond.

BEWARE of Deborah Dupre and Delia LaBarre

Who are the Gulf Coast Barefoot Doctors?

So, here’s the context: We have hundreds of real citizen advocates who live all over the Gulf of Mexico coastline, and who have worked since April of 2010 to bring into the public domain whatever they could contribute toward addressing the Gulf oil spill. They come from all different walks of life, both professionals and laypeople, and their shared passion and advocacy is assisting the rehabilitation of the GOM and its coastal environment. After 9 months into the Gulf oil spill, here comes Ian R. Crane bullying his way into the GOM advocacy network. Apparently he was not receiving enough publicity for his many conspiratorial narratives concerning the spill. He has lots of videos for sale and he’s not selling many of them; he just doesn’t get any traction.

So, what does he do? He starts committing character assassinations on some of the most effective heroes of the Gulf Oil Spill to get the attention he seeks. And, then, he starts to get the attention (advertising) he obviously craves to jumpstart his oil spill business. So now he thinks he’s hit on a winning formula by bashing the heroes to get attention.

Whose characters does he defame? People who have not only sacrificed their livelihoods, but in some instances their very lives. These individuals have spent their own money, time and energy with no compensation, reimbursement or donations and have put themselves in harm’s way to reveal the truths around the oil spill. And this is how Ian R. Crane treats them! A businessman from outside of London brings his own wrecking ball to the Gulf after it’s been destroyed by BP et al.

Why does Ian R. Crane conduct such an unconscionable smear campaign? Why would he persist, after months of being told the facts, in defaming the characters of those who worked tirelessly to reveal the truth about the greatest environmental disaster in North American history? He’s not even from the USA and yet he makes money off of our tragedy and ruins the reputations of some of our best and brightest. Why?

Ian R. Crane has started a facebook page which is entitled:

Please Like This Page & Help Expose BP’s Robert Kaluza

This entire site is basically dedicated to one of Crane’s current life missions. For all intents and purposes Crane would have us all believe that Robert Kaluza, “one of BP’s company men on the deepwater Horizon when it exploded”, is responsible for the whole Gulf oil spill. If you were to closely peruse his facebook page you will quickly see how many times Crane pitches his videos, dvds and other items for sale to the reader. This site is really about one thing, and one thing only: Ian Crane selling Ian Crane’s products, and sometimes at the expense of very good, hard-working advocates.

For the uninitiated it is very important to understand that the Gulf Oil Spill is the result of countless individuals, companies, politicians, regulators, contractors, sub-contractors, citizens, Big Oil employees, Military-Industrial Complex corporations, the US Federal Government, various state governments, etc., who either didn’t do their jobs or did them so well that this oil spill was just about guaranteed to happen. To lay the blame at the feet of one man – Robert Kaluza – or to even insinuate that he is the lynchpin (smoking gun) in such an investigation is simply ridiculous, which is just one reason why so many throughout the GOM advocacy network are profoundly offended by Crane’s dishonesty and disingenuousness.

Please understand that we are not suggesting that Robert Kaluza did not play a significant part in the lead-up to the explosion, burning and sinking of the Deepwater Horizon. Only the evidence and proven facts can determine exactly what his role was in this very serious and consequential episode. However, many feel Crane can no longer be trusted to ferret out the truth because of his unlawful and self-interested behavior in related matters.

Even if Crane were to lay the blame at the feet of an entire company like BP (whose actual responsibility is obvious historical fact by now and whose true criminal culpability may very well bankrupt it), his narrative would fall far short of the mark of truth. Many of us have come to realize that when anyone pushes a story with such obvious shortcomings, there is usually an agenda. We do know from talking to many who have read Crane’s comments and websites that he is well known for bashing those who receive more attention and publicity than himself.

The real environmental advocate cares not about how much publicity he receives because his intentions are honorable and he seeks no monetary gain or fame from his activism. Can we say the same about an Englishman who comes into our neck of the woods and foists his theories, and products, and libelous statements into our faces?

‘Journalists’ Ian Crane & Deborah Dupre destroy citizens’ movement

Just what is their MO? The GCBD simply label anyone who has fallen out with them an infiltrator. Disagree with them, don’t promote them, try to break away from their influence and you are suddenly called a BP agent, COINTELPRO, psyop or some other such pejorative label.

As for Ian Crane, his favorite way of smearing anyone who he targets is to falsely accuse them of being part of the controlled opposition. Not a very nice thing to do to lifelong environmental activists whose very lives depend on the trust and good will that has been built over a lifetime. He is given to doing this so casually that he seems to be arrogantly unaware of the consequences of his actions. Actions which are essentially criminal as we have seen with the News of the World hacking scandal.

As for the damage that has been inflicted on the entire Gulf of Mexico Advocacy Network, one can only imagine what will occur when highly influential and brutally honest advocates are taken down by such scurrilous and fallacious writing. When this occurred earlier this year, one could see the many volunteer advocates flee from the scene of this Crane/Dupre crime spree so as not to be tainted by their scandalous writing. No one wants to be tarred with the black and oily brush of the false accusation of betrayal.

What would anyone do when the most vocal and authoritative Gulf advocates are taken out with one slice of the slanderous blade? So quickly and easily! These two perpetrators sowed the seeds of fear and alarm so deeply that most of these folks will never come back to their respective health advocacies and environmental groups. Others have strongly expressed an aversion to working with any environmental health advocacy groups in the foreseeable future.

Even more tragic, the libelous articles and comments disseminated by both Crane and Dupre have planted so many seeds of mistrust that, where many worked together in a collegial relationship, these quickly dissolved into distrustful interactions. Mutual suspicion now replaced what was mutual trust throughout many of the key groups, which were making real headway with various Gulf restoration projects.

This investigative journalist has spoken to many Gulf residents, enviro groups and citizens throughout the Southeast during the past year and heard many stories about several different aspects of the BP Gulf oil spill. Clearly, the writings of Ian R. Crane and Deborah Dupre have done more to undermine a vibrant citizens’ movement than all the other mainstream media disinformation taken together.

After viewing numerous emails from different individuals formerly associated with the GCBD, it became clear that it was the most destructive enterprise on the Gulf. So many good people were defamed and humiliated that the word started to spread like wildfire. Unfortunately for Ian Crane, he chose to throw fuel on the fire, when he could have worked to put it out. True intentions do become known quite quickly under conditions of duress like the Gulf oil spill. Many of those concerned have remarked that a fraud is very easy to spot when the situation is as desperate as it has been during this awesomely tragic oil spill.

One final point of information is that Deborah Dupre is the subject of a $10 million defamation of character lawsuit. The suit alleges defamation of character by libelous articles which she was paid to write, as well as by slander during radio interviews she conducted. As for Ian R. Crane, we leave you with his highly dubious and childish dare which he made to the very same Gulf advocates referred to throughout this expose. Mr. Crane had the audacity to publish this dare in his newsletter back in April 2011 in which he was selling his latest video on the oil spill. He showed absolutely no interest in hearing the truth or correcting the many deliberate falsehoods, which he had previously disseminated by email/newsletter as well as posted on the internet:

“If these observations are inaccurate, please file the appropriate legal action!” (Per Ian Crane’s Newsletter of April 1, 2011)

Please be aware that Ian R. Crane is now under very serious investigation for the same criminal behavior as Deborah Dupre. According to those who have been injured by Ian Crane’s actions, he is being taken up on his challenge shown above.

Mugshot of Ian R. Crane

We will end this expose with a note of appreciation for the many Gulf advocates who have literally died in the line of duty. Some who have not been killed have continued to perform their work under death threat; others have literally been the object of attempted murder and assault. Through the despicable actions and writings of both Ian R. Crane and Deborah Dupre these same individuals have now incurred an additional risk. Their lives have been put into even greater jeopardy and their characters thoroughly defamed through false and malicious statements they continue to post on the internet.

PRESS RELEASE:

Ian Crane, Ex-Schlumberger Oilman, Illegally
Tapes Former GOSRC Coordinator

The Gulf Oil Spill Remediation Conference, an 11 month-old International Citizens’ Initiative, is filing criminal charges in Tallahassee, FL against Ian Crane, a former Schlumberger oil executive. The GOSRC has forwarded the original email to authorities in which Crane admitted to taping the former National Coordinator without his knowledge or consent. Crane’s subsequent suspicious actions and dubious correspondence concerning the Gulf Oil Spill have caused many throughout the GOM citizen’s movement to question his motives and agenda, and therefore compel us to file these charges.

Ian Crane currently poses as an advocate of sorts whereby he often places the full responsibility of the BP Gulf Oil Spill at the feet of BP’s Robert Kaluza. Crane’s former employer, Schlumberger, the world’s largest oilfield services company that worked on the Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico, “says its crew left the Horizon on the day of the fire”. As an ex-oilman, Crane has adopted a pattern of behavior in which many sincere Gulf advocates, who do not wholeheartedly join his cause, have become subjected to completely untrue and unwarranted derogatory statements, as well as a continuing barrage of ad hominem attacks.

By several accounts Ian Crane has teamed up with an internet writer, Deborah Dupre, who has likewise used her writing platform to vilify and persecute some of the most courageous heroes of the Gulf Oil Spill. Dupre writes for Examiner.com which began a partnership with Thomson Reuters in the City of London, England. Reuters corporate headquarters is located approximately one tenth of a mile from BP corporate headquarters in London. Crane’s media outlet is located in Devon, England.

Dupre and members of her family also reportedly take stipends from oil transport companies which run pipelines over their respective properties in Louisiana. She has followed a very similar pattern of conduct to Crane in which those with whom she disagrees become the object of her libelous articles and slanderous radio interviews. Countless members of the vast network of BP oil spill have been shocked and mortified by her many unsubstantiated and groundless allegations which are found in her many ludicrous articles.

Both Crane and Dupre have been relentless in making patently false accusations against very hard-working individuals who have literally sacrificed their lives in the interest of advocating for the Gulf of Mexico and the coastline residents. Their MO consists of labeling anyone who runs amuck with their agendas as either “controlled opposition” or infiltrators. Many have expressed a total intolerance of their constant baseless and scurrilous attacks on good, well meaning people.

Please understand that this press release is being issued in the interest of warning all concerned parties of Ian Crane’s ongoing unethical behavior and illegal actions. He has likewise been reported to the Tallahassee Police Department and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Formal complaints are being filed with the Florida Attorney General’s Office, as well as the State Attorney’s office in Leon County, FL.

For anyone who wants to understand how seriously the State of Florida takes the illegal taping of it citizens, please click on the following two links to get an update on the current trial of a Tallahassee woman who unlawfully taped a Leon County Commission candidate just last year. Also, ask yourself the question, “Why is Ian Crane surreptitiously taping Gulf Oil Spill advocates?!”

For the protection of all of us from future attacks and accusations, especially from an individual who resides in Great Britain and just today emailed the following statement, we highly encourage widespread dissemination of this press release:

Three things you can’t hide: The Sun, The Moon and The Truth.” ~ Buddha.

All that is needed for evil to succeed is that decent human beings do nothing. – Edmund Burke

No Nothing is what it seems in the BP’s Mega Oil Spill disaster.

Perhaps it was the 14 Jan political overthrow of authoritarian president Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali who ruled Tunisia with an iron fist for the last 23 years and the ensuing popular uprising in the Middle East uprising against tyranny, misrule, corruption and highhandedness. Even the world’s 10th largest military could not suppress the civilian uprising which has until today lasted 17 days. President Hosni Mubarak who had a tight control of the Egyptian armed forces is expected to step down any time soon. (He stepped down 2 days after this article was written).

Perhaps the lies and cover-ups of the Gulf Oil Spill disaster are bursting at the seams. Like any cancerous terminal illness, it is no longer possible to cover the lesions and symptoms with “cosmetics”. The only escape hatch is to spin and muddle the pool. With sufficient willful ignorance in the world’s populace, the perpetrators of the BP’s Mega-oil spill disaster could escape scott free just as in Project 911 Disaster. 911 served as the main reason for the War on Terror; triggering the Afghan & Iraqi wars, Homeland Security and Patriot Acts etc which not only affected the US but the whole wide world. Today after more than 10 years, you cannot air-travel as freely without being groped and probed.

Despite the many “hanging and disturbing” questions, PYSOPS were used to put the blame on innocent parties while the masterminds behind the disaster reaped enormous economic windfalls from the “fallout” of the disaster. Americans and the world are still paying the real costs. Project 911 Disaster was so successful there was no question of an encore which had to be bigger, longer and more devastating to generate even bigger windfall. The world was ripe for climatic changes. Gradual climatic changes are non-destructive and do not generate windfalls for those in the know. Catastrophic climatic changes do. Carbon Emission and Global Warming schemes exploit climate change. Instead of conservation, splurging is encouraged so that our excesses can be taxed profitably. Mega-disasters are the new trends in generating mega-windfalls with sinister motives in case you have not noticed.

Project Gulf Disaster

What better way to herald the onset of a global catastrophic climate change by triggering an already precarious world with an apparently accidental mega-disaster? If Project 911 disaster was planned prior to Bush being elected in 2000, then Project Gulf Disaster must have been planned soon after 911 was successfully executed. It was planned to explode in October of 2009 within the first year of the new president. It would have been the new president’s 1011 to further erase persistent doubts that Bush’s 911 was preplanned.

Would they risk the success of Project Gulf Disaster by the growing independent voices of truth in the Mega-Oil spill? The answer is NO.

Stamping out the independent voices of truth.

After more than 7 months of trying to stamp out the independent voices of truth in BP’s mega oil spill without success, the powers behind the Project Gulf Disaster had to act urgently before the growing masses of “non-believers in the controlled mainstream media” become unmanageable. Whatever their fears, determined efforts to silence the independent voices of truth on the BP’s Mega Oil Spill were stepped up especially after 19th Sept 2010 when the premature pronouncement of the dead wells were proven to be blatant deception meant for public consumption. The dead wells were alive and leaking!

The increasing health problems being reported by the gulf victims, scientific findings of higher than expected oil/corexit tainted gulf water, increasing evidences of a dying gulf and unprecedented occurrences of shallow low magnitude earthquakes cannot be natural nor coincidental. They are testimonies of a massively leaking reservoir; confirming our worst fears.

While it might have been possible to gag random voices of truth and cover the initial localised consequences of the disaster, it would be difficult to dismiss a dead gulf stream, mass deaths of birds and fishes and extreme weather conditions (among other abnormalities) worldwide. Was the recent worst flood disaster in Queensland part of the chain of events triggered by BP’s mega oil spill disaster?

Sounds far-fetched? Not if you understand the logical analyses on how the world not only inherited 3 leaking wells through willful negligence, but through incompetence intertwined with vested business interests, fears of job losses, cover-ups and greed, BP had “unwittingly” engineered the world’s largest network of faulted-fractured pathways for “natural” oil and gas seeps. Impossible? Then consider this simple basic fact.

Is it possible for oil/gas gushing out of an 9-7/8 inch casing well to stop the massive gulf stream?

Art Berman (a pro-BP apologist) in his attempt to justify a lower estimated flow from the blown well, reproduced statistics from MMS on more than 8,700 wells drilled in the Gulf of Mexico since 1996.The highest known flow rate per well is approximately 100,000 bpd (barrels per day). See Estimated Oil Flow from the BP Mississippi Canyon Block 252 “Macondo” Well.

He nevertheless, omitted the fact that there were 3 leaking wells NOT ONE, when the article was published on 29 June 2010. His most reasonable estimate was 40,000 – 50,000 bpd for one well. With 3 gushing wells, Art Berman’s total flow rate would have been 120,000 to 150,000 bpd.

But would 3 vertical columns of oil at 150,000 bpd be able to stop the mighty gulf stream which moves 30 million cu metres of water per sec or 188.7 million barrels per sec? 150,000 bpd translates to only 0.28 cu.metres per sec (or just 0.000001% of the Gulf Stream flow). No wonder Tony Hayward said the leak was only a tiny drop in the ocean.

Further, if the oil had not been dispersed with Corexit, much of the spill would have streamed up to the sea surface and removed from the water column. Surface oil layers would have no significant effect in stopping the largely thermohaline circulation driven gulf-stream flow at 30 million cu metres of water per sec (Wikipedia). Stripped of technical jargon or adulterated data/statistics, such simple logic show the Project Gulf Disaster for what it truly is; a mega fraud designed for mega-financial gains with sinister mega motives with mega collateral damages.

So how did the Gulf Stream die?

The fact that the Gulf Stream flow did stop is proof that a lot more oil and gas did flow out of the reservoirs than officially declared. The amount of oil spilled had to be more (greater than 150,000 bpd) but not all came out through the wells. The 10inch casing could not accommodate such massive flows.

By drilling into a known geohazardous gas-hydrate Salt-Geology, for so many months (from Oct 2009 to April 2010) without adequate cement-protection against hydraulic continuity between gas-saturated strata, BP had negligently allowed corrosive “brine-gas” fluid to permeate and erode the highly porous, faulted and fractured Salt geology. The oil and gas leaking out of these newly “created” (eroded) pathways to the ocean bottom are more enormous than what we can imagine.

Ask yourself these simple questions.

If the “oil leak” had been fully sealed on 15 Sept 2010 as promulgated, what were 4 expensive drilling rigs with 5 wells-drilling capacity and many more supporting vessels doing at the Macondo site? Why were 2 drilling rigs (Development Driller III and Development Enterprise) still at site 3 months later?

All these confirmed the oil and gas had not stopped leaking from the reservoir and neither has the widespread hydrates stopped vaporising into poisonous methane gas. The leakages and vaporisation should be increasing logically. The fact that no marine surveys were commissioned to quantitatively assess the seabed, 9 months after the blowout, is itself strange and worrying, not only for the gulf residents but the world as well.

Immediately after the disaster, good-intentioned BP’s managers wanted to contain and collect the oil through 3 giant containment domes at 3 spill locations. Why does the number “3” appear so often? The containment recovery method would have exposed the fact that 3 wells were drilled.

Officially it was the problem of hydrate crystals clogging the oil flow or collection. But insiders’ information revealed that the first of the 3 containment domes, was still parked on a clear seabed a km away from the spill area when BP announced on 8 May that the containment efforts had failed. The significance of this containment failure escaped public attention even though it was mentioned in at least 3 past articles. Exactly how did hydrates form with no supply of methane gas? If it did, hydrates would be forming on every piece of equipment on the Macondo seabed. Make sense?

BP’s mega-oil spill disaster has been referred to as the Crime of the Century. The dome containment effort did not fail. How could it fail when it was not never deployed over the leaking location? Again another simple logic.

Deploying the first containment dome over the “worst leak location” would have exposed the blown out crater at S20BC location, 720 ft NW of well A. Deploying 3 containment domes would reveal 3 well locations on the seabed and not 3 leakage points on the 5,000ft riser as reported by the mainstream media. You do not need 3 numbers of multimillion dollar containment domes if the 3 leakages were on the single riser. By cutting off the riser, you get only one Leakage. Elementary isn’t it?

If containment is not the way to go, why would BP announced on 20 Sept 2010 (4 months later) its intention to join the Marine Well Containment Company (MWCC) and made its underwater well containment equipment available to all oil and gas companies operating in the Gulf of Mexico? If well containment was useable why abandon the containment effort altogether instead of using it to minimise environmental damage while the relief wells were still in progress?

Why allow the oil and gas to gush uncontrollably for so many months before the well was capped or killed? Well A which was drilled to only 5,000ft BML could have been killed as early as May. But a dead Well A would have exposed a 3rd undisclosed well S20BC, 720 ft NW of well A. Corexit had to be used to disperse and hide the oil gushing out of the third well. How would it look if Well A was dead and yet the sea was still covered with oil?

Was that the primary reason BP was so insistent on using Corexit even after EPA had withdrawn permission for its usage? Environmental friendly alternatives were not considered for the same reasons.

Production Of Corexit By Nalco Which Is Associated With Bp And Exxon.

In just 3 months after the Deepwater Horizon exploded on April 20, 2010, BP pumped nearly 2 million gallons of Corexit into the Gulf of Mexico (The Examiner, 25 July 2010).

The $64 million question is, “If corexit had been banned by UK more than a decade ago, and its adverse effects widely known after the Exxon Valdez spill in 24 March 1989, would any company find it profitable to continue producing a banned product in large quantities?” Even storing hazardous liquids would be expensive.

How could such toxic dispersant (with no other industrial application) be available in such large quantities so soon after the blowout? Is it not strange for a company known for aggressive cost cutting to have such large quantities of dispersant on standby as if a major oil spill was expected?

Then again BP’s safety policy require a well to be relocated if there was a drilling risk. Surely an exploration well cannot be that important it cannot be moved by 500m or even 1 km? Well locations are moved all the time on perceived drilling risks. So what purpose did the geohazards assessment and survey serve? Were the geohazards survey specifically for the Macondo Wells even conducted? Insider’s information suggested none were carried out. Most international safety policies (including BP’s) employ “Better be safe than sorry” principle. So why would BP choose the expensive and risky option of drilling into trouble rather than the prudent option of a safer location?

Was it just plain business acuteness or pre-disaster rammed up production of Corexit? Many had asked the “profit motive” of a preplanned disaster. Isn’t all the economic windfalls obvious?

The Gulf Stream would not have died if Corexit was not used in such large quantities.

If the oil and gas had been collected at the wells instead of the phoney Top-Kill, or even allowed to rise quickly to the surface, the Gulf Stream would not have died. It died because the oil and gas were dispersed and allowed to accumulate within the water column, effectively homogenizing and destroying the thermohaline stratification needed for the gulf stream to circulate. If BP had not used dispersant, the oil would have surfaced, washed ashore and removed from the water column instead accumulating and mixing within the gulf-stream water column.

The rov evidences showed even more gas vents along all the fault lines. On a single 2-hour Rov surveillance tour (labelled as biological survey), the Rov traversed back and forth from Well A to at least 7 gas vents (at 10-15 deg intervals). All the gas vents had been marked with guide ropes and marker buoys; confirming BP knew more about the gas vents than they care to admit.

So how much methane vaporised from hydrates due to the warming effect of the hot hydrocarbons and how much light hydrocarbons (radioactive?) escaped from the reservoir? It is impossible to estimate accurately. Minimal estimates arrived at, are quite staggering.

It is the combined effect of dispersed oil, continuous gas-venting along the fault lines and edges of the salt domes over hundreds of sq km and the continual vaporisation of hydrate to gaseous methane that knocked out the gulf-stream. Not the puny gas leak gushing out of well A which mermerised the world for 187 days. The total volume of escaping gas over the whole Macondo prospect would be hundreds of time larger than the total volume of oil leaked out through the wells and fault zones.

In our past articles, we had demonstrated the potent sub-seabed erosion of escaping light hydrocarbon and brine (from formation) through the faulted and porous Salt domes. If containment efforts had been used in earnest instead indiscriminate “killing of the zombie wells” the environmental and climatic consequences would have been far less damaging. Rather than reveal the truth about the 3 wells, did BP herald the onset of Catastrophic Climate by engineering the world’s largest network of faulted-fractured pathways for unnatural oil and gas seeps?

The faster than normal erosion within the formation and sub-seabed, stretching from 18000 ft BSL to the seabed has far-reaching effect; more drastic than the masterminds of Project Gulf Disaster BP had anticipated. The abnormal speedy depletion of mass which is significantly more pronounced in the upper formation and sub-seabed, has two important consequences.

For millions of years, the south-eastern part of the North American tectonic plate (south-east of the New Madrid Fault line) has been thrusting in a north-easterly direction while the western half of the plate has been moving south along the San Andreas fault line. This is the main reason for the present gulf seabed morphology.

The resultant torsion tension is reflected by the fault pattern illustrated in a previous article BP’s Rigs Location & Fault Connection. Besides lateral stresses, vertical stresses also developed between the upper and lower section of the tectonic blocks due to differential upper and lower slide movement. The abnormal occurrences of hundreds of shallow and low magnitude earthquakes since the Macondo blowout are the direct consequence of the continual release of these pent-up stress zones. FEMA recently sent out RFI (request for information) to identify vendors for the emergency supply of food rations, various fuels and hydration in support of disaster relief efforts based on a catastrophic disaster event within the New Madrid Fault system for a survivor population of 7 million to be utilised for the sustainment of life during a 10-day period of operations. Is FEMA having privileged information of an impending disaster in the New Madrid Fault area, 9 months after the BP’s Mega-oil Spill disaster?

If the blown-well had not been blocked, the problem would have been easily and safely resolved. But safe recovery was not in BP’s best interest; covering their mistakes and bad intentions were.

BP’s continued denial and cover-ups had triggered a chain of calamities not only in the US but all over the world starting with abnormally cold and prolonged winter in the Northern Hemisphere, followed by the worst floods in the documented history of northern Australia.

Major volcanic eruptions had worldwide climatic consequences lasting for years. Why would this massive underground eruption and continuous spewing of oil and gas spanning hundreds of sq km for over 9 months be any different? We choose to be willfully ignorant to our own peril.

Some words of wisdom from Dr Thomas B Manton, a Gulf Hero and Public Critic who was recently murdered after being framed-up in late 2007. His frame-up and murder confirm Project Gulf Disaster was planned years earlier by powers that spanned beyond BP and the present US Administration.

“Manton was particularly distressed that the U.S. Federal Government allowed BP to completely take charge of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill disaster area, as his experience taught him that the offending oil company should never be given command over the oil spill response.”

“BP has done more damage to harm the American homeland than al-Qaeda could ever do.”

“We learned very quickly the difference between we Americans, who prefer to contain and collect spilt oil, and the British who preferred the use of dispersant to try to make it disappear in the ocean.”

Nine months after the onset of the oil/gas eruptions, the climatic consequences of Project Gulf Disaster are starting to show. Fishes, dolphins, whales and birds are dying in masses. There are sound geological reasons for all these observed abnormalities. The people in the oil industry know the reasons but are not telling for fear of their jobs and lives. The top advocates of truth in this disaster are dead for a number of good reasons; but primarily to serve as a deterrent to would be whistle-blowers.

Deregulations and “Thou Shalt Not Fail” command.

Meanwhile before the masses start to connect the dots and ask the really difficult questions, the independent voices of truth needed to be silenced first. Detractors repeatedly pointed out that Dr TB Manton was arrested more than 2 years before the Gulf Disaster. Like any preplanned alibi, such prepaid defenses are not as solid on close scrutiny. A MIHOP (make it happen on purpose) disaster requires more skill, experience, effort and time in planning than a routine exploration well. Project Gulf Disaster needed years of planning with the right collaborators in place. It was no coincidence Tony Hayward took over as BP’s CEO in early 2007.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/robert-f-kennedy-jr/sex-lies-and-oil-spills_b_564163.html

Then, between January and March of 2001, incoming Vice President Dick Cheney conducted secret meetings with over 100 oil industry officials allowing them to draft a wish list of industry demands to be implemented by the oil friendly administration. Cheney also used that time to re-staff the Minerals Management Service with oil industry toadies including a cabal of his Wyoming carbon cronies. In 2003, newly reconstituted Minerals Management Service genuflected to the oil cartel by recommending the removal of the proposed requirement for acoustic switches. The Minerals Management Service’s 2003 study concluded that “acoustic systems are not recommended because they tend to be very costly.”

It was no coincidence Vice President Dick Cheney started to dismantle and relax stringent offshore regulations as far back as 2003. Even with an outdated (pre-2000) stringent offshore regulations and high HSE standards, minor random accidents and blowouts could still happen. But no way could a long series of “coincidental safety lapses and human mistakes” escalate into a major environmental disaster needed for Project Gulf Disaster. For this to happen, all control “floodgates” must be opened at the right time at the right places without arousing suspicions. Now that would be difficult without a subservient “watchdog” (MMS?) and a cooperative media that asks only the “right” questions.

Deregulations, bottom-line/profitability and “cost-cutting measures” come in handy.

Was it any wonder the door sign at Tony Hayward’s office read “What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail”? Was this supposed to push his men to failure? He must have had countless problems with professional managers who would have objected to his seemingly unsafe, risky and reckless exploration management. Surely there would be true professionals who disagreed with the locations of the Macondo wells and saw the potential problems and drilling risks. Tony Hayward probably overrode all their safety concerns pointing to his door sign. It was like saying “Go ahead and jump off the cliff. You will not die”. This was by itself a blatant violation of BP’s or any international standard HSE policy.

As President of the International Oil Spill Control Corporation, Dr TB Manton was perceived as a major obstacle to the success of Project Gulf Disaster, if he chose to be uncooperative and to speak out.

Dr TB Manton needed to be reined with a noose around his neck, in order to secure his cooperation. He was tricked into a plea bargain in late May, about a month after the 20 April 2010 blowout. He accepted the plea bargain (with a promise of no jail sentence) so that he could concentrate his effort on the oil spill remediation effort. Now that is a real hero.

He could have fought the court battles to prove his innocence but the victims of the gulf disaster were more important to him. There are good fundamental reasons why Dr TB Manton’s pornography conviction will not hold but being computer illiterate, Dr TB Manton was convinced it was a Slam Dunk for the prosecution.

Why Dr TB Manton & Matt Simmons needed to be silenced?

There was never any need to jail or kill Dr TB Manton even as late as July 2010 since BP was still confident of killing the spewing 3rd well covertly before the first week of August. The relief wells were drilled towards this S20BC well at 18,000ft BML and not Well A. To ensure the “Dog and Pony” show at Well A was convincing enough, the relief wells had to intercept and bottom-kill the runaway well first. Nothing was left to chance; certainly not in full view of billions around the globe.

Relief well C intercepted the spewing well covertly in early July but BP lied for almost 2½ months that the much-awaited relief-well intercept happened only on 15 Sept. Even BP’s believers were left wondering why it took so long to intercept from a mere 4 feet distance. But suckers are suckers no matter how bad the bovine @!$%# is?

Ships evacuated from Gulf as tropical storm advances – 23 July 2010
Dozens of ships in the Gulf of Mexico are preparing to leave the site of the BP oil spill as Tropical Storm Bonnie gathers pace. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-10729485

The first relief well is only 4ft from the damaged well horizontally, but more work needs to be done before it can be used for a “kill” to stop the flow permanently. A final piece of casing needs to be cemented in place at the bottom of the relief well.

BP executive Kent Wells said on Thursday the oil giant had been given permission to begin preparing for “static” kill – pumping mud into the top of the well through the new cap – which is being viewed as an intermediate measure.

Just when success was within grasp, the “relief well-bottom kill” started to falter and did not hold as predicted by many. Well A which was “top-capped and shut tight” on 15 July, was also proving to be highly uncooperative. The well pressure did not rise to the expected 8.000-9,000 psi range (perceived as a moved goal post by many).

Could an openly gushing well connected to a reservoir with 13,000 psi pressure, peaked at less than 7,000 psi when capped, even if it was leaking? After 41 hours the well pressure rose slowly to 6745 psi; at about 2 psi per hour. The strange well pressure readings could not be explained by an 18,000ft sealed (or leaking) well connected to a deep high pressured reservoir. It can only be explained by a 5,000ft well with an open (1000ft) wellbore in hydraulic connection with a shallow gas-saturated weak formation (GWSF) zone.

Below is an extract from:Alexhiggins blog on the integrity well test

“Retired Adm. Thad Allen, the national incident commander, has said that a pressure reading of 8,000 or 9,000 pounds per square inch (psi) inside the new cap would be ideal, while a pressure reading of 6,000 psi would indicate leakage. But pressures in an intermediate range would create ambiguity and force officials to make a tough decision on whether to keep the well shut in or open it back up and resort once again to containment operations.”

The Art of Mass Deception.

The plan was to showcase the “successfully killed well” at Well B which was already plugged and abandoned in mid March 2010. There were several video footages of the BOP (partially dismantled) near well B; prompting many to ask questions on the “busily travelling BOP”. BP had cautioned undesirable consequences if the BOP at Well A was removed before the well was killed at the bottom by the relief wells.

After Hurricane Bonnie, many observers were surprised the coordinates of the capped well approximated to Well B instead of Well A before the hurricane pull-out. Matt Simmons appeared on mainstream media crying foul play on a moved “goal post”. He was labelled a “mad person” for crying out “the emperor wore no clothes” while the rest of the world could see the “magnificent invisible golden robes” so finely woven it was practically transparent.

Worried their “Grand Phoney Finale” of killing Well A would fall apart and expose their crime of mass deception, BP set out to destroy the credibility of the Gulf Disaster’s foremost critic, the Late Matt Simmons. It was no coincidence that The Oil Drum (TOD) published “A critical Examination of Matt Simmons’ Claims on the Deepwater Spill” on 29 July2010 for Simmons to be publicly humiliated and severely trashed by his peers in the oil industry.

Just when they thought the last flame of truth had been snuffed out, the article Why is the BP’s Macondo Blowout So Disastrous and Beyond PatchUp dated 25 July, was published the following day on 30 July. The article received an unprecedented 6,000% jump in website visits. Why? Because of its accurate depiction of the hazardous Salt geology in explaining the Macondo gas blowout. BP’s schills immediately jumped in at all the blog forums to stamp out the “fire” but it was too late.

Shocked by the accuracy of the qualitative geological model and the wide support by pro-Simmons bloggers, BP thought the counter-attack must have been preplanned based on breached confidential information. To make matters worse, the supposedly killed well (S20BC) started spewing again on 2nd Aug with an abnormal earthquake event at Louisiana. An embarrassed BP had no choice but to show-case the phony well kill back at Well A which predictedly flopped. Thad Allen and BP were at a loss to explain the 40% cement loss at well A.

How could 200 barrels of cement be lost to seabed, out of 500 barrels pumped into an open well 18,000 ft long? Only an open-bottom Well A drilled 5,000 ft deep (BML) could explain the severe cement loss to seabed and BP was desperate to cover this critical fact and sore thumb.

For the first time since the 20 April blowout, Project Gulf Disaster was at risk of being exposed as a Mega Fraud. Drastic urgent steps had to be taken to stamp out the rapidly growing flame of skepticism.

On 6 Aug 2010, Dr TB Manton was sentenced to an unduly harsh 15 years jail time; effectively silencing a shocked innocent man who changed his “not guilty” plea in late May in exchange for a fine and no jail time. Two days later Matt Simmons was dead in a hot bath tub. Ex-senator Ted Stevens died in a plane crash 2 days later on 10 Aug 2010?

Another coincidence? Heck No!

A few days before Matt Simmons’ death, the late Ted Stevens had announced he was going to donate all his senate and personal papers to the University of Alaska for research. The following day, BP followed with a One Million USD donation for the purpose of cataloging the papers from Ted Stevens’ four-decade long political career. With a long tainted history, the cataloging move was suspiciously seen as a preemptive move to control exposure on BP’s wrong-doings.

tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/08/reports-sen-ted-stevens-may-have-been-in-plane-crash.php

Former Sen. Stevens knew BP was cheating on BOP tests. Could he have been whacked because what he knew ties directly into the Gulf oil disaster?

The 48-year-old veteran oil worker claims that in the oil industry, particularly at BP, “the culture is basically safety procedures are shoved down your throat and then they look the other way when it’s convenient for them.” He claims that oil operators often wouldn’t report spills and that when he spilled chemical fluid in 2003, he was told by his superiors not to report it. Mason, who now runs a small operation hauling freight in the Alaskan bush and owns guest cabins, says he was fired by a drilling company in 2006 after he wrote a letter to the editor of the Anchorage Daily News to condemn the firm for incorporating overseas and thereby avoiding taxes.

Mason and another oil worker provided sworn statements in a 2003 lawsuit that rig supervisors “routinely falsified reports to show equipment designed to prevent blowouts was passing state-mandated performance tests,” reported the Wall Street Journal in 2005.

Mason was interviewed by the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission in 2005 during a probe into allegations that Nabors Drilling, a subcontractor to BP, falsified such tests, among other claims that BP failed to report blowouts at the massive Prudhoe Bay oil field. The probe was spurred by oil industry critic Charles Hamel, who forwarded his allegation to then-Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska.

www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/05/12/bp-whistleblower-claimed_n_573839.html

BP Gives $1 Million to UAF to process Ted Steven’s papers. British Petroleum is donating $1 million to the University of Alaska Fairbanks to catalog the papers from Ted Stevens’ four-decade political career.

Stevens sent more than 4,500 boxes of documents to the university’s library. Without the BP grant, the Rasmuson Library told The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner it would have taken decades to sort. www.ktuu.com/Global/story.asp?S=11549859

Could all these be coincidental? The weeks of silence that followed was taken as a sign that the deterrents had worked.

Now to silence the remaining Independent Voices Of Truth

The independent voices of truth did not die down as hoped. Instead there was steady stream of technically-precise missile strikes at the glaring flaws in BP’s bathmetry, flawed shallow assessment and the investigation reports. BP also had a hard time explaining the presence of 4 expensive drilling rigs at the Macondo site in November. Could the 24-Nov plane crash at Destin, Florida, killing BP’s director of operations for BP’s Gulf Coast Restoration Organisation (Jim Black) be coincidental as well?

Dr Termotto’s article The Gulf Of Mexico Is Dying posted on 1st December, generated tremendous readers’ response and rekindled waning public interests on the disaster. Interest on the Gulf disaster started to pick up again after the Christmas and new year holidays following the abnormally cold winter in Europe; disrupting travel and closing airports during this busy travel period. By January, BP’s investigation and the Oil Commission reports were being systematically torn apart at fundamental levels.
Following the late Matt Simmons’ suspicious death on 8 August 2010, everyone in the Independent Voices Of Truth group was constantly reminded of possible infiltrators and threats to their normal lives and computers. BK in particular had experienced several attempts on his life for carrying out his professional duties as a QC consultant in the oil industry. His experience was quoted to serve as a warning and the seriousness of such threats within a seemingly respectable oil industry.

Despite making police reports based on documented evidences in several countries and making several whistle-blower reports to the oil companies, his own employer (Geohazards QC Consultant Firm), the world’s largest geohazards contractors and various government departments in the respective countries, no actions or prosecutions were ever taken for the blatant safety abuses, medical and data frauds, corruption, improprieties, infractions, willful negligence and HSE deception. We are not talking about 3rd world countries but first world countries within the top 15 list of the world’s least corrupt countries.

The worst offenders are major oil companies and the offending contractors and consultants are leaders in their respective fields. It shows how high, far and wide, corrupt oil power had infiltrated into modern society and governments of the world. Without such high level oiled corruption, Project Gulf Disaster could not even be planned, let alone be executed with such wide ranging power as we had seen since April 2010. Modern high speed internet, strategic global coordination and dissemination of distorted truths by mainstream media helped to dowse the ever-willing to be deceived populace. Ignorant bliss lasts only as long as the calm before the storm. That storm is near.

The Oil Empire Strikes back

The Oil Empire could not sit back and watch helplessly as the Independent Voices Of Truth Websites gain in popularity while their carefully crafted deceptions got torn apart, one by one with each revealing posting. There were increasing reports of computer breaches by members of the independent group.

After increasing signs of covert retaliations by the Oil Empire, Dr Tom finally secured BK’s permission to make public his endangered status in mid January. On 19 Jan during a Rense.com radio interview, Dr Tom publicly discussed BK’s fugitive status and threats on his life. The next day we received news that Dr TB Manton had passed away on 19 Jan 2011 after suffering quietly from extreme head trauma inflicted by a fellow prisoner assailant. The timing of Dr TB Manton’s assault seemed highly suspicious. Was Dr TB Manton’s assault and subsequent death meant to serve as a reminder?

Two days later, several computers within the Independent Voices of Truth group were repeatedly attacked for weeks. Then on 7 Feb, Dr Tom was publicly slandered just like Late Matt Simmons was, prior to his “assassination”. Could such concerted attacks on members of the independent group mean the messages of truth were finally getting out to the wider concerned public? Were these attempts to silence the independent voices of truth? In an email dated 17 Feb, Dr Tom Termotto reported he had gone completely underground, fearing for his life. There has been no news from him since then.

If you are not with them, then you are against them. Independent Voices not Tolerated.

Is it another coincidence that another prominent coastal scientist Gregory Stone with LSU passed away of an unknown illness on 18 Feb 2011? In the coming months, the game of blame will be played out in the courts. Do we remain Willfully Blind as in the Tale of 3 BP’s Wells or like the Bankers in Bernie Madoff’s Mega Fraud?

Deceased LSU scientist refused BP contract, warned others they “need to be very, very careful”
February 20th, 2011 at 11:12 AM

In a meeting this summer with BP representatives to discuss a possible contract, LSU coastal scientist Gregory Stone was asked about keeping his work confidential for three years. …

Stone, director of the LSU Coastal Studies Institute for the School of the Coast and Environment, decided that entering into any side contract with BP would go against his “good conscience.” …

Stone warned that colleagues should think twice. He acknowledged “some consternation” on the issue that has resulted in varying faculty opinions.

University professor Gregory Stone dies, LSU Reveille, February 18, 2011:

The LSU community is reeling after the sudden death Thursday of prominent LSU coastal scientist Gregory Stone. Stone, who was quoted extensively in many publications internationally after last year’s BP oil leak, was the director of the renowned Wave-Current Information System. …

“We’re all dazed and stunned,” [Chris D’Elia, dean of the LSU School of the Coast and Environment] said. “He was a lynchpin at this place. It’s a tremendous loss. He was loved by his staff. People who worked with him adored him.” D’Elia said Stone was admitted into intensive care late last week from an unknown illness. The thought was that Stone was improving but then news came that he died Thursday, D’Elia said. …

Our lives are in extreme danger for being independent and bringing the truths on the Gulf Mega Oil Spill to the world. As we dig deeper into a seemingly “accidental disaster” we find the oil business to be much dirtier than thought. After more than 140 years, the oil industry has morphed into a global uncontrollable monster that has the world tightly under its clutch. With each crude oil price hike, the increase in oil pressure pushes out a few more safety catches in the system. As we have seen in BP’s Mega-oil spill and the negligent manner in which BP conducted its oil exploration program, safety in form and not in spirit is no safety at all. BP is not the only culprit in this greedy pursuit of oily profits by any means.

This is a disaster that need not have happened and should not have happened. But it did happen. There are valuable lessons to be learned but most important of all, this disaster has not ended and the long term health and environmental effects need world attention to force a comprehensive remediation, not just superficial compensation. The hydrocarbons leakage from the deep reservoir and methane vaporisation from the warming effect of that leakage have not stopped yet.

Allowing the culprits of this disaster to get back their life of luxurious yacht sailing while the Gulf victims suffer in silence, is gross injustice of the highest degree. Will the Gulf Disaster go the way of Piper Alpha, Exxon Valdez, Bhopal and countless other environmental disasters; forgotten and ignored, only to be repeated years later?

Covert white-collar CRIMES OF MASS DESTRUCTION are unscrupulously profitable and all our laws had not been formulated to deal with this cancer of modern society. Our energy and attention had been overly zapped and focused on the War on Terror, that we (as guardian of our children’s freedom, safety and future) lapsed in our duty to be on a constant look out for infractions by enemies from within the top echelon of society.

Only through the collective efforts of global citizens worldwide, can we avert the next mega disaster; whether man-made or naturally accidental. Even if you do not entirely agree with our analyses, there is no harm in making the oil and other industries safer by practicing HSE in true spirit and not only in form. Increasing offshore regulations without understanding the root problem of industry-wide abuses would only increase cost with no tangible improvement in safeguarding the environment.

An immediate total ban to offshore drilling is not the solution either. Reviewing the abundant offshore data would be the first step to understanding the challenges we face before taking concrete steps to solving the problem. No amount of sabotage or evil-planning can succeed if everyone of us is civil enough to report willful negligence when we see it.

“Willful Blindness” as Bernand Madoff coined it is simply not acceptable. We must all take responsibility for our own environment. We cannot delegate custody of mother nature to the oil companies. It would be asking the Fox to guard the chicken coop. We must ask questions so tough no regulators would dare to derelict on their duties to act promptly and fairly on whistleblowers’ reports. There is simply no substitution for Prevention.

The arch-swindler Bernard Madoff could not have bilked thousands of investors of billions of dollars without the “willful blindness” of scores of banks and hedge funds which put their own clients into the fraudster’s fake investment business. In his own words “the attitude was sort of -If you’re doing something wrong, we don’t want to know”. Read more at From his jail cell, Madoff points finger at the banks. This is precisely what BK had been reporting on the malaise affecting the Oil Industry.

Project Gulf Disaster was an investment fraud with a technological twist. The difference; the perpetrators walked free to enjoy their spoils despite the devastating effect because the WORLD IS NOT AWARE and DO NOT CARE ENOUGH. Now that the truth is known, do we stand in solidarity with the innocent gulf victims or remain passively in our comfort zones? Today it may be the Gulf of Mexico, but quite definitely, a mega-disaster might be coming to a neighborhood near you, if the oily business behind the Oil Industry is allowed to get any messier.

by Dr. Tom Termotto

There comes a time in a person’s life when he or she is called upon to address an injustice far greater than the injustices which concern only oneself. Especially when that individual serves in a position of leadership does it become necessary to respond. I refer here to a piece recently published on an internet news platform about me, my character and my work. Please be aware that anyone, anywhere, anytime can fall victim to such a hit piece of character assassination*. In fact many who have been speaking truth to power in recent years have suffered a similar fate.

The urgency of this matter has become so great, that the entire movement and advocacy network surrounding the BP Gulf Oil Spill (BPGOS) is at great risk. The real irony and synchronicity is that this event took place right after Jeff Rense of the Rense Radio Network hosted what was probably the most unifying national program around this extraordinary global catastrophe. Why would such a productive development be pushed over a cliff so soon after this defining moment? Why was something so inherently positive, hopeful, and constructive so quickly assaulted and savaged? How could it be so easily torn apart with one swift slice of the slanderous blade? What was the motive?

Many know that I have served for nine months as the National Coordinator of the Gulf Oil Spill Remediation Conference (GOSRC) in Tallahassee, FL. This endeavor was a purposeful and informal coming-together of many individuals around the world – persons who are genuinely concerned for the Gulf as well as for the planet. We chose quite deliberately not to register as a 501(c)(3) as we wanted nothing preventing our lobbying public officials, or otherwise impeding our effectiveness. Furthermore, given our assumed posture toward the Oil & Gas Industry, we recognized the importance of anonymity for endurance, and we took no money in any form on any of our websites or blogs. This was meant to be an international citizens’ initiative operating below the radar, so that we could get to the truth and disseminate it quickly throughout the world. And this is what we did.

Inasmuch as we do live in an age in which anyone connected to the internet can literally make things up and dish it out in the most derogatory fashion as happened to me, the truth can sometimes only be found by going directly to the subject. Therefore, if anyone wants to get to know me, my character or work, simply google my name, and review the work that I have done on the BPGOS. If the content of these articles and essays resonates, then perhaps you might join this ongoing advocacy however you’re so inclined.

There’s an infinitude of challenges concerning the planetary disaster that occurred last year in the Gulf of Mexico. The Earth needs our help more than ever. I would hope that we can all come together instead of being driven apart. The world has suffered enough from the divide and conquer strategy which all of us know too well. The suffering, both individual and collective, has been awesome. The countless trials and tribulations have been too onerous for many to bear. If ever there was a time for the few of us who have stepped up to the plate to coalesce around the Gulf and its many challenges, that time is now. We may never have another opportunity.

Being in the catbird seat all these months, we have come to know much about the Gulf and its true state of affairs. What we have published during our journey of research and ongoing discovery is but a tip of an enormous iceberg. What we have not yet disseminated does affect every inhabitant of the planet… and that is NOT overstatement. Therefore, we ought to collaborate and support each other in this cause like never before.

We must not remain in shock from having witnessed the outrageous efforts to sabotage a movement in dire need of cohesiveness and unity. Personal attacks of ANY nature are devastating and fear-generating. Few among us have ever seen such a shocking and shameless effort, couched in ‘journalism’, designed to defame, undermine and destroy something so worthy and urgently needed. As my good friend and fellow conferee BK Lim recently wrote, “… we are getting quite close to the truth. That’s why you are being slandered [libeled].”

Finally, in the spirit of our blog entitled Take Back Your Power, Now!, I am compelled (and now forced by the universe) to do just that. The despicable rumors drawn out of thin air are totally outrageous. They are repugnant. They are defamatory. These fabrications run completely contrary to all I have stood for throughout my entire life. For those who truly know me, no further explanation is needed. For those who choose to believe or even consider what amounts to outright prevarication, I urge you to seek out and read the prodigious amount of evidence proving intentions on our many blogs, websites, articles, essays, open letters, emails, radio interviews, television specials, documentaries, etc.

Many in the Gulf and elsewhere are now very apprehensive about their involvement in this crucially-needed work. Please do not be thwarted from your respective and necessary initiatives. Know that many are silently toiling for the salvation of what all of us hold dear. Given the actual state of affairs, much of the ‘heavy-lifting’ can now be done in the privacy of our own homes. It has now become that demanding of a situation… so take stock in what you have to offer. Consider the talents you bring to bear; and know this situation may prove the most difficult challenge most of us will ever face.

In closing, let me say that our next posting at the Phoenix Rising From The Gulf website will include numerous developments of paramount importance for those who live, work and play in or near the Gulf. This forthcoming article will contain emerging truths about the GOM and newly discovered facts about the BPGOS which will concern all of us. We pray that these revelations will assist those who seek the truth to make the most informed and wise decisions possible about their future.

May God bless those whose lives are connected to and affected by the Gulf of Mexico. Each and every one of us is in great need of such grace throughout these tumultuous times.

A Profile in Courage, Resolve and Heroism

Tom Manton was born in Rangoon, Burma, almost 72 years ago, as the oldest son of missionary parents. His upbringing and rich life in Asia both informed and acculturated him in a way that gave him great compassion for people without a voice. He assumed this very posture toward everyone he met and worked with throughout the BP Gulf oil spill.

Tom was the former President and CEO of the International Oil Spill Control Corporation, which began operations in the Middle East, and specifically addressed the oil spills in Saudi Arabia. The Saudis had huge desalination plants along their coastlines with multi-million dollar filtration membranes that were easily ruined by the spilt oil and gas which got into the system. The real challenge, therefore, became how to clean up the oil in the most environmentally sensitive and effective way because this was after all the water they would drink, bathe in and cook with.

In the earliest days of the Gulf oil spill, Tom was so shocked at how BP “broke every rule in the book” that he put everything else aside and worked exclusively on the spill 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. His primary message to the Government was that an oil company should never, ever, be given control over their own oil spill in that such an arrangement would guarantee another disaster, and very likely a far worse one.

From May to August of 2010 Tom’s International Oil Spill Control Organization was one of the primary participants in the Gulf Oil Spill Remediation Conference, an International Citizens’ Initiative. During this time none of us in Florida knew that Tom had been falsely accused of a crime. In spite of carrying such a burden he conducted radio and TV interviews, authored a variety of articles and met with various state and county officials along the Gulf right up to the Governor’s Office in Florida.

     Throughout this entire time –

He was fearless. He was determined. He was proactive 24/7. His self-sacrifice at every turn was inspiring to all of us – he was like a lion roaming the Gulf Coast. He was forced to walk miles in 95 degree heat to witness Obama’s statement on Pensacola Beach … he walked for miles down Main Street, Tallahassee to meet with the Governor’s office, the TV Stations, and state representatives … he drove all over Louisiana from Grand Isle to New Orleans to Venice meeting with representatives from the Coast Guard, BP, various parishes in coastal Louisiana, as well as numerous media outlets.

Tom was up every morning sending the latest reports by email every day at 6am. Mapping out new strategies to bring in the likes of Jimmy Carter, the ex-governors of Florida, or anyone else with high profiles who might draw needed attention to this “Disaster of the Millennium”. Always writing opeds, exposes on BP or lessons on how to properly clean up an oil spill, spreading his wisdom in this manner became his pastime. As a direct descendent of Thomas Jefferson, he was fiercely patriotic, and his command of history entered many a screed directed toward BP. The 2nd American Revolution, he called it.

To perform with such courage, resolve and initiative in the face of such personal adversity was truly exemplary. Can you imagine the personal risks he assumed by exposing himself to the extraordinary forces that we all saw at work around this spill?! Tom saw the cover-up immediately and sought to expose it, lest we lose a whole way of life and colorful culture unique to the coastal communities of the Gulf of Mexico. He never gave up the fight to convince the governments – federal, state, county and city – that there was a much better way to clean up the oil, and restore the waters.

Through it all he never revealed the difficulties of his legal entanglements, until he was wrongfully imprisoned by the Florida Criminal Justice System. At 71 and ailing from heart surgery he was coerced into accepting a sentence of time-served. So convinced was he that he would serve no more prison time, he signed away forever his right to appeal the conviction. When sentencing day came, Tom was given a 15-year sentence (as an innocent first time offender), essentially guaranteeing that Tom would die in prison.

Tom’s last letters to family and friends were peppered with statements that he would soon be killed in prison if he was not quickly released pending appeal. Each successive letter became more desperate; then a couple of weeks ago he was attacked in a Florida Panhandle state prison, where he should have never been placed given his age, infirmity and disposition. He passed away a few days later after suffering quietly from extreme head trauma the entire time, paying heed to death threats if he informed on his assailant. Even the prison chaplain wondered why Tom did not show up for his regular religious service, which Tom himself was selected to lead that weekend.

This is not a happy story at all, but Tom wanted it told, so that others would not fall prey as he did to the machinations of those who were bent on stifling the truth. No matter what the damage to his reputation, he only wanted these and many other truths about the BP oil spill to be revealed in order that the nation would be protected and the environment preserved for future generations.

Clearly, if there were more Tom Mantons in the world, the BP Gulf oil spill would have had a radically different, and perhaps acceptable, outcome.

May God Bless Tom Manton,
And may he rest in peace forever.

Physics of Impossibility – A Critical Review of BP’s & Oil Commission’s Blowout Investigation Reports.

- BK Lim
31 January, 2011

Distorted facts, half truths and omissions do tell a story by themselves; especially when they occur so coherently across supposedly independent investigation reports. This article will not delve into the objectives or detailed analyses of these discrepancies found in these reports. A book had already been compiled on them waiting for publication.

This succinct outline of discrepancies illustrates the physics of impossibility if the analyses and conclusions of these official investigation reports are to be trusted, even partially

Why did the investigations ignore so many obvious impossibilities? Stripped bare of technological jargon, it is blatantly clear even to the layman, the disastrous blowout at Macondo MC252 could not have happened as reported and analysed by BP or the Oil Spill Commission, not unless the laws of universal nature (laws of physics) are revised to accommodate the erroneous conclusions contained therein. In general, both reports are long on technical intricacies but short on the fundamental issues that mattered.

Were 3 wells or 1 well drilled? 2.5 months (76 days) is a long time to spend on a single exploration well which normally takes from 2 weeks to 3 weeks to drill. Exploration wells are normally budget for 2 to 3 weeks of actual drilling with another 1 to 2 weeks for testing a strike well. Eleven weeks, excluding the 4 weeks spent from October – November 2009, was definitely excessive by any exploration standard. What happened in the 11 weeks and why were the reports “loudly” silent in this critical area of investigation?

Were the persistent rumours of 2 or even 3 wells examined in earnest, especially in the face of the unexplained documented lies by BP officials at site that the Deepwater Horizon rig (DWH) had drifted 719ft NW in calm weather with 0.69 ft/s (0.05 knots) current? See conclusive evidence: Well A is not the well that blew up on 20 April

Did the blown well deviated (by-passed) or drilled vertically through the troublesome gas formation at around 13,000 ft BML? If indeed the blown well was deviated (as reported in the Well Activity Report) should this not be examined closely for possible direct causes of the blowout? Why was this issue omitted in both investigations? If there was no deviation and the blown well was drilled vertically (as shown in both reports) then BP could not have possibly drilled only one well in the absence of the phenonemal “Physics Of The Impossible”. Were legal improprieties and even criminality involved in drilling these additional wells with blatant disregard of authorized exploration procedures?

Even the promulgated official findings of the blowout itself failed high school physics. For the initial gas influx to enter from the bottom of the well, the pressure of the influx had to be higher than the pressure exerted by the total column of mud, salt water and spacer within the well. With the gas volume expanding inversely proportionally with decreasing pressure, any gas influx from the bottom of the well would have quickly developed into an uncontrollable oil gusher. If the rising gas bubble were to travel even 1/10th the speed of sound (330 m/s) it would have taken less than 25 seconds from the bottom of the well at 23,000 ft BSL (below sea level) to reach the floor of the drilling rig. For comparison, at the speed of 5 knots, the time taken to travel that distance is only 5.2 minutes.

Thus for BP’s investigation report to conclude that the flow indications started approximately 51 minutes before the blowout occurred, it is equivalent to saying the gas influx “took a very slow train to China”. It simply could not have happened. Even ROVs ascend faster than 0.5 knots.

In any case, an oil gush from an open reservoir will continue until depletion as we saw in the 86 days before the well was capped. Just like any pent up coke bottle, once the bottle is popped the gas will flow until depletion without a second explosion. So how could the second explosion have happened?

The second and bigger blowout (explosion) on 22nd April 2010 could only have happened if and only if, the initial gas influx that caused fire to break out onboard DWH on 20 April, were to leak in through the shallow part of the well. The abnormal pressure readings observed during the negative tests and in the 52 minutes prior to the blowout, could be easily explained by a leaky top well section with hydraulic connection to vast amount of drilling mud and cement that had earlier infiltrated into the gas-saturated weak sub-formation (GWSF) zone.

This would have meant that the well bore annuli of all 3 wells drilled were never properly sealed (cemented) to prevent hydraulic connection right up to the seabed. There are ample evidences to support the heavy drilling losses encountered in the drilling. In my previous blowout investigations, this would be the very first area to check for the causes of the blowout. What more when the dangers of gas hydrates in the deep waters of the gulf had already been forewarned. See MMS warned in 2009 about deepwater gas-blowouts in the Gulf of Mexico

“A sixty-page memorandum addressed to Renee Orr, the chief of the leasing division of the Minerals Management Service (MMS), was sent in September 2009 by an environmental investigator, warning of potential disaster in offshore drilling operations and the particular dangers posed by gas hydrates.”

“Reports by MMS, a branch of the Interior Department, also provide evidence of the role bad cement work has played in accidents. One study named cementing as a factor in 18 of 39 well blowouts at Gulf rigs from 1992 to 2006. Another attributed five of nine out-of-control wells in the year 2000 to cementing problems.” (Per NORPA Environmental Investigator Alerts MMS To Dangers Of Outer Continental Shelf Drilling)

Although bad cementing was discussed, both reports failed to recognise the fact that a poorly sealed top section of the well would have easily explained the abnormal pressure readings during the negative testing without having to invoke the illogical unscientific “Bladder Effect”. But admitting a badly sealed hydraulically connected top section would mean willful negligence, since drilling could not have proceeded deeper if tests had shown top hole defects. Is that why this top hole issue was not discussed?

Most important of all, the initial gas influx from the base of the well could not explain the two broken drill pipes stuck in the riser phenomenon. BP tried to explain it frivolously that a weak sea current (0.69ft/s) could have drifted DWH and lifted the drill pipe by 25ft.

How could a fixed length riser (drifted or stationary) cause another fixed length drill pipe within it, to move vertically (differentially) by 25 ft? Even if DWH were to sink by 25ft (to compensate for the lateral movement) there would still be no differential movement of the drill pipe within the riser; unless the riser shrunk independently in length. In which case, the top drive (attached to the drill pipe) would have pushed the drill pipe downwards into the well and not vertically upwards (as observed when the top drive fell approx 26ft onto the rig floor).

It is only logical that the drill pipe was forced upwards (vertically), sheared and broke at the weakest point above joint A. What could have caused this tremendous upward force? Again the logical answer was the 2nd and more powerful blowout on the morning of 22nd April 2010 from the base of the well. Gas alone would not be sufficient since gas is compressible. While the initial gas influx and gas feed was from the GWSF zone (at much lower pressure), the second blowout occurred when the Shoe Track Cement and Float Collar gave way. Unlike gas, oil exploding out of the reservoir at very high pressure (13,000 psi) is not compressible. The hollow drill-pipe filled with high pressure hydraulic fluid (just like a “piston system”) would shoot like a high speed projectile upwards. It is doubtful the BOP and wellhead could even stand this tremendous pressure at the mudline. So was the late Matt Simmons right again that the BOP and wellhead were blown off or badly damaged? It does appear that the late Matt Simmons was not so senile after all.

No doubt the experts at BP and Oil Commission investigation team would have arrived at the same logical findings given in this article. This begs the obvious question; why did they overlook the logical explanations in preference for absurdities?

Below is an expanding list (updated 1 Feb 2011) of impossibilities, omissions and questions which had not been addressed or wrongly concluded by BP’s and the Oil Commission’s reports:

1. Impossible for 2 drill pipes to be embedded side by side in Riser from 1st blowout on 20 April 2010

2. Impossible for BP to have drilled at only at one well location

3. Impossible for well A to be the well that blew on 20 April 2010

4. Impossible for DWH to have drifted 719ft NW of original well A location

BP officials could not have determined to 1 ft accuracy the surface location of DWH. That location was calculated from coordinates. But even the Rovs could not be close enough to the burning rig to get a close fix. That location was obtained from the Rov sent down to manually shut down the BOP. It is therefore the seabed location of the blown well-head before the 2nd explosion.

5. Impossible for Well A to be the seabed origin of DWH & riser wreckage pattern

6. Impossible for the oil gush to flow from north to South when well A is south of gushing crater.

7. Why was the first ROV footage of the gushing well at seabed level >700ft NW of well A?

8. Why was the wellhead at Well A not shown to the public before mid June 2010?

9. Why was the bop dismantled and reassembled so many times before it was officially removed?

BP had consistently maintained that the BOP was fixed on well A wellhead since the day of the blowout on 20 April 2010. BP had also maintained that removing the BOP would have undesirable consequences. Thus the riser was left in place leaking and gush oil & gas at 3 locations when the most logical solution to the containment effort would be to cut the riser or even remove the damaged BOP and contain the gushing oil at the blown well itself. BP could not do that because it would have exposed BP’s criminality in the disaster.

The BOP was officially removed in late September 2010 after the well was supposedly killed.

From insiders’ sources this is a total fabrication. Rov footage showed the removal, dismantling and reassembling of the BOP, sightings of the BOP at locations other than well A location, etc; confirm that the gushing well could have been contained instead of being allowed to gush for more than 87 days. In reality the 2nd more powerful blowout damaged the wellhead and blown off the BOP. BP’s “dog and pony show” at well A was to keep the world mesmerized with the predominantly gas gush at well A while they covertly tried to kill the real open gusher, S20BC, which is 720 ft NW of well A.

10. It is impossible to have 2 wellheads if only one well location was drilled.

There is concrete evidence of 2 distinct wellheads, one at Well B and the other at Well A. The wellhead at S20BC had been blown off together with the BOP.

11. Omission: well deviation

On the well activity reports and emails, it was clearly stated that BP applied to abandon the well after hitting an out-of-well control situation at 13,100 ft BML (below mudline) in early March 2010. In a WAR, the supposedly well A (but Well B in reality) was reported to have severed drill pipe at 12,100 ft BML and shut in the well. If the well had been side tracked (or bypassed) to avoid the gas strata should this interval not be examined for possible causes to the blowout? Why was this critical area bypassed in the investigation?

In reality, BP did not bypass or sidetrack from Well B. Instead they drilled at a 3rd location (S20BC) which blew up on 20 April 2010 720 ft NW of well A. Why did both reports not discuss this important issue? A deviated well would have been drawn as below.

12. Reported by-pass / deviation impossible to execute

13. Impossible for gas influx that caused the fire on DWH on 20 April to come from bottom of well.

14. Unimaginable for gas to enter well for >50 minutes before first blowout

This would easily confirm the late Matt Simmons’ assertion that the BOP had been blown off in the 2nd blowout on 22nd April, 2 days after the 1st blowout.

15. Omission: 2nd underwater blowout (explosion) on 22 April which brought down the DWH

16. Impossible to know the 2nd underwater explosion occurred without ROV observation

This means that Rov footage of the 2nd blowout has been recorded by BP. Why has this video footage been kept from public view? This would easily confirm the late Matt Simmons assertion that the BOP had been blown off in the 2nd blowout.

17. Impossible for 2nd explosion to occur if 1st blowout was from gas influx at bottom of well.

18. Impossible to explain “bladder effect” without shallow well leakage & hydraulic connection with GWSF formation.

19. Impossible for drill pipe to break and be embedded in Riser from 1st blowout

As shown in the following diagrammatic illustrations.

COREXIT is supposed to make you think it “Corrects It!”

by Dr. Tom Termotto

Did you ever wonder how they came up with the name COREXIT? We did … and it was recently brought to our attention that COREXIT is most probably based on the meme*, “Corrects It!”

We are sure that BP, Halliburton, Transocean, Anadarko, US Coast Guard, EPA, et al. had very high hopes that COREXIT would correct it in the minds of the broad public by making them think that the oil is gone. And, that for those who rely on the mainstream media for their information concerning the status of the BP Gulf oil spill, they probably believe that COREXIT has corrected it, all right.

We might also surmise that BP et al. never anticipated that COREXIT would only correct it for a limited period of time before people would start to catch on. That limited period of time has now expired.

The people who live, work and play on and near the Gulf of Mexico coasline now demand the following:

I. That the US Federal Government issue a cease and desist order to BP concerning the use of the highly toxic dispersant, COREXIT, anywhere in, on or near the Gulf of Mexico. This non-negotiable demand is based on the extraordinary harm/injury to human, animal and plant life, which COREXIT has been scientifically shown to cause. Non-compliance with this demand will eventually result in formal criminal charges being filed against each and every decision-maker responsible for knowingly poisoning the Gulf and the human population that resides there.

II. That the US Federal Government commence the utilization of non-toxic, bio-remediation products on the EPA’s National Contingency Plan list which do not introduce new micro-organisms into the waters. Especially in those coastal areas of LA, AL, MS, FL and TX, which have been determined to require immediate oil spill intervention, and which have been despoiled through the use of unprecedented volumes of COREXIT, the use of these EPA-approved and proven products (one bio-remediation agent has been used successfully 14 times on this spill) must be implemented immediately.

III. That Nalco Holding Company, the producer and distributor of COREXIT, be barred from doing business within the United States of America. That a restraining order will be enforced so as to lawfully preclude COREXIT from being dispensed into any and all USA territorial waters, as well as all water bodies which are contiguous to or flow into those of the USA. The US Attorney’s office will also proceed with revoking the corporate charter of the incorporated entity known as Nalco Holding Company.

The following informative video offers a compelling and irrefutable case for these three demands to be acted on with all deliberate speed. This documentary also provides an objective and authoritative assessment supporting our official recommendation from the Gulf Oil Spill Remediation Conference (GOSRC). The GOSRC is at the hub of a growing number of environmental health advocacies, citizens’ groups and political activist organizations involved with the BP Gulf oil spill, all of which have demanded the immediate discontinuation of COREXIT in the Gulf of Mexico.

http://oilgate.wordpress.com/2011/01/29/the-hidden-crisis-in-the-gulf/

We sincerely invite anyone who views this video to join the ever-increasing and urgent demand that a safe, healthy and effective alternative to COREXIT be co-instituted by the US Coast Guard, the EPA and BP. The very life of the Gulf of Mexico greatly depends upon it.

*COREXIT does not equal “Corrects it.” – Subliminal advertising has been a standard operating technique of Madison Avenue as long as there has been a Madison Ave. Subtly and surreptitiously implanting memes, ideas, and emotions is what marketing manipulation is all about. Using subtle word plays is a very clever and purposeful way of moving a lot of people in a pre-determined direction with ease and efficiency.

GOSRC Note: We think it is time to re-label the dispersant known as COREXIT in light of what we now know, and in view of what the EPA, Coast Guard and BP knew when they unlawfully dispensed it throughout the Gulf (See EPA test results below).
